PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Donovan DeAntonio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Blow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). DeAntonio comes to the cage accompanied by "Psychosocial" by Slipknot. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Donovan DeAntonio!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Joe Blow!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Blow connects with a good right hand that stumbles DeAntonio. DeAntonio circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Blow shoots in for a takedown but DeAntonio shows good takedown defense.

Blow closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming DeAntonio to the mat! DeAntonio manages to get full guard.
Blow controlling from the top position.
DeAntonio is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Blow controls from within his opponent's guard.
DeAntonio pulls Blow in close to his closed guard and prevents Blow from doing any damage or advancing position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
DeAntonio doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Blow counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
DeAntonio swats away the attempt to clinch by Blow.

Blow tries to control but DeAntonio wriggling away.

Blow lands with some vicious ground and pound - can DeAntonio hang on?

DeAntonio is controlling an arm, preventing Blow from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Blow tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Blow breaks from DeAntonio's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Blow working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

Blow takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Blow lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
DeAntonio in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.

DeAntonio is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Blow trying to advance position but DeAntonio counters by regaining guard.

Blow has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Blow stands up from DeAntonio's guard - Blow perhaps looking for a knockout.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Blow.
Blow works over DeAntonio's head and body with a nice combination.
DeAntonio changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Blow tries to avoid it but DeAntonio manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Blow to the ground. Blow escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
DeAntonio loads up on a big right hand but Blow slips the punch.

DeAntonio shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Blow's guard.
DeAntonio might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Blow looking to control.
Blow wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Blow is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Blow is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Blow is thwarting DeAntonio's attempts to control the position.
Blow perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
DeAntonio is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Blow with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
DeAntonio tries to roll over but Blow keeps him under control.

Joe Blow showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


DeAntonio doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Blow closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. DeAntonio manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Blow gets to his feet. DeAntonio looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Donovan DeAntonio is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Blow shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
DeAntonio has his hands on Blow's head, controlling the position.
Blow wants to control from the top but DeAntonio keeps moving.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Blow is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Blow feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Joe Blow comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Blow has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
