PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between David Bowie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anderson Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bowie comes to the cage accompanied by Sound and vision. Anderson Silva is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, David Bowie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anderson Silva!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Felipe Paraventi and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Anderson Silva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bowie is looking to clinch but Silva is avoiding it.
The fight stays on the outside here - Bowie looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Bowie fails with the takedown

and Silva counters with a single leg into guard. Bowie didn't expect that.
Bowie trying to control the position here.
Bowie utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bowie pulls Silva in to control the position.
Silva has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Bowie is proving hard to escape from.
Silva being controlled here momentarily.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Bowie has a closed guard, preventing Silva from standing up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

David Bowie has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Bowie cracks the inside of Silva's front leg.
Bowie fails with an attempt to clinch.
Silva circles away from the clinch attempt

and Silva counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Bowie!

Silva jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Bowie is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Bowie and Silva has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Silva with the ground and pound but Bowie regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Silva prevents Bowie from improving his position.
Silva really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bowie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Silva thows a huge punch but Bowie dodges it nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anderson Silva dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Silva wants to clinch.
Bowie scores with a head kick. Silva tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Bowie keeps the fight on the outside.
Bowie darts in trying to clinch

and Silva counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Silva throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Bowie is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Bowie is trying to stand back up but Silva is controlling him
Silva performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Bowie is refusing to be controlled, as Silva sits in half guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Bowie avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Silva.
Bowie is staying active underneath Silva, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Anderson Silva hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Silva shoots in but Bowie avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Silva throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Silva.
Bowie tries to clinch up

and Silva counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Bowie looking for a guillotine here but Silva defends easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Silva working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Bowie looking to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anderson Silva showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Silva doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Bowie counters with a three punch combo that has Silva backing up. Silva nods at Bowie to acknowledge the strikes.
A solid leg kick lands there for Bowie.
Silva shoots for a takedown but Bowie saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Nice sprawl there from Bowie as Silva shoots in.
David Bowie has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Anderson Silva.
Silva shoots in looking for a takedown but Bowie manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Silva's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
David Bowie is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bowie gets a clinch.
Bowie is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Silva pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Bowie is trying to force a seperation but Silva has the dominant position.
Bowie connects with a nasty looking knee right to Silva's face.

Bowie changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Silva fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Silva gets the takedown into side control.
Silva cracks Bowie with a big right hand but Bowie just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Sloppy strikes there by Silva.
Bowie is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Bowie wants to get back to full guard.
Silva wants to take a breather but Bowie is having none of it.
Silva not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Silva throws a strike but Bowie avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Silva throws and elbow that misses. Bowie uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Silva's guard. Nice move by Bowie!

Silva had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Bowie defends it easily.
Silva preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Bowie wants to control from the top but Silva keeps moving.
Bowie cracks Silva with a solid left hand.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Bowie connects with a couple of short punches.
Silva scores with a couple of body punches from the bottom.
Bowie connects with a couple of short punches.
Bowie is in close to Silva's body, working some short punches and elbows.
David Bowie has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Silva keeping moving, preventing Bowie from controlling successfully.
Bowie is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Silva is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Bowie landing some decent shots from guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Bowie postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to David Bowie.
I think Silva has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
