PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Brett James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and cuatro vientos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). vientos has chosen false pretense as his entrance music. Brett James had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Brett James!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, cuatro vientos!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, James Glass and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Horrible takedown by vientos or perhaps it was just good defense by James which made him look bad.
vientos fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

vientos closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - vientos lands in his opponent's guard.

James is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

James got a little sloppy there for a moment and vientos has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, James has managed to get both his arms back between vientos's legs - danger averted.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as James accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

James shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. vientos is trying to defend but James finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

James scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. vientos doesn't seem bothered though.

James closes this distance looking for a takedown but vientos circles away.
James tries to close the distance and clinch up but vientos swats him away and circles back towards the center.
vientos takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
James catches vientos with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

James fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with vientos, pushing him back against the cage.
vientos tries to pull guard but James holds him up against the cage and eventually vientos drops back down to his feet.
Brett James has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of cuatro vientos.

James has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics vientos uses from the top position.

vientos sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
James throws a nice looking combination but vientos bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

James has hold of vientos's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and vientos manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
