PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between George StPierre (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Boyan Cadell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Boyan Cadell will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, George StPierre!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Boyan Cadell!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Gregory Folan and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cadell tries to close the distance and clinch but StPierre swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
StPierre tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Cadell swivels and escapes.

StPierre feints and as Cadell raises his hands in defense, StPierre changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
StPierre pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Cadell is keeping the position for now.

StPierre drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and StPierre jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

StPierre thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Cadell seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Cadell had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. StPierre defends it easily.
Cadell has his hands on StPierre's head, controlling the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
StPierre tries to free his leg and advance position but Cadell is retaining full guard.

Cadell is looking for a triangle but StPierre pushes his legs off easily.
StPierre advances to half guard.

StPierre is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

StPierre is looking for a kimura here.

StPierre is working for a kimura but Cadell is defending it quite comfortably.
StPierre is breathing heavily.
Cadell is looking to control StPierre's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Cadell avoid being mounted?

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Cadell really doesn't want to stay on the ground with StPierre. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
StPierre trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

StPierre is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Cadell is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Cadell has escaped and now he's on top!
Cadell engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Cadell closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Cadell swings around for an armbar but StPierre sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Cadell's guard.
Cadell is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

StPierre drops back looking for a leg! Cadell is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Cadell manages to kick StPierre off! StPierre jumps back into Cadell's guard.
StPierre wants to pass the guard but Cadell is keeping the position.

StPierre drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Cadell manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now StPierre has Cadell in his guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Boyan Cadell has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Cadell tries to clinch up.
Cadell throws a right and a left that StPierre avoids nicely.
StPierre swats away the attempt to clinch by Cadell.

Cadell tries to clinch but StPierre is having none of it.
StPierre has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Cadell finds it's way round the side to connect with StPierre's head.
Cadell fakes the leg kick and cracks StPierre in the body.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Cadell. StPierre shrugs it off though.
Cadell fails with an attempt to clinch.
StPierre shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Cadell closes the distance and pushes StPierre back into the cage.

Cadell breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
StPierre blocks a head kick by Cadell.
StPierre fails with the takedown
and Cadell counters with a left and a right that stings StPierre.

Cadell gets in close and instigates a clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Cadell.
Cadell gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from StPierre.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for George StPierre. That's going to take a lot out of him.
StPierre goes for a takedown attempt but Cadell pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Cadell closes the distance and pushes StPierre back into the cage.

Cadell pulls guard effortlessly.

StPierre drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Cadell manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now StPierre has Cadell in his guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Boyan Cadell showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Cadell pushes StPierre off and gets back to his feet.

StPierre shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Cadell's guard.

StPierre drops back, looking for a kneebar! Cadell looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Cadell looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Cadell!
StPierre is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Cadell asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Cadell stands up and beckons StPierre to his feet.
Cadell tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but StPierre paws at him with a jab and circles away.
StPierre swats away the attempt to clinch by Cadell.

StPierre closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Cadell quickly recovers to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cadell wants to get back to his feet.

StPierre is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Cadell is looking for a sweep. StPierre is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
George StPierre overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

StPierre maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Cadell could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but StPierre has cracked it and Cadell is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by StPierre!
