The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Venture jabs at Smith's body.

Venture shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Smith as he jumps to the side.
A looping hook to the body misses from Venture. Smith does a little dance to reset his feet.
Venture takes a swing at Smith's ribcage but misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Venture shoots in looking for a takedown but Smith manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Venture's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Venture shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Venture showed some decent athleticism there.

Venture wants to take a breather but Smith is having none of it.

Venture swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Joe Smith is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Smith tries to clinch up but Venture circles away and keeps his distance.
Venture fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Smith manages to avoid it.
Smith swings away with a leg kick that misses.

Venture throws a body punch but Smith moves out of range.
Venture throws a jab but it's blocked by Smith.
Venture throws a body punch but Smith moves out of range.
Smith avoids the body shot from Venture.
Venture throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Venture throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Smith steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Venture.
Venture misses with a body shot.
Smith fails in his attempt to clinch.
Venture takes a swing at Smith's ribcage but misses.
Smith moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Smith darts in and clinches Venture up against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Dean Venture will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Venture has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Smith is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Venture yanks on the arm and Smith is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Venture.
