PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Andrei Andreev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mad Child (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Child is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Broken Mirror. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Andrei Andreev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mad Child!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Paulo Santos and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Andreev gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Child.
Andreev shoots for a double leg takedown but Child sprawls well. He's pushed Andreev's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Child shoots in looking for a takedown. Andreev tries to sprawl out of it but Child keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Andreev manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Andreev gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Child counters with a straight right hand.
Andreev takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Child decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Child performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Andreev is trying to get back to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Child slows the pace down in half guard.
Child wants to pass to mount but Andreev is defending the position.
Andreev has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Child is working away from the top position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Child content to control rather than advance.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Mad Child hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Child lands a body shot.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Andreev drives through with a takedown into guard.
Child is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Andreev trying to control but Child is working from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Child stuns Andreev with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Child doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Andreev counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Andreev.
Child looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Andreev wants to pass the guard but Child is keeping the position.

Andreev is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Child is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Child has escaped and now he's on top!
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Child accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mad Child dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Andreev on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Child works the jab nicely.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Child is defended easily by Andreev.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Child throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Andreev takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Andreev throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Child was covering up waiting for the punch and Andreev finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Child has his hands on Andreev's head, controlling the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Andreev throwing strikes but missing.
Andreev being controlled here momentarily.
Child really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Andreev. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Andreev stopping the sweep attempt from Child.

Andreev has gone for a leg lock! Child slips out almost immediately though and dives into Andreev's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Child seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Let's hope that Child has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Andreev looking to control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Child thows a big elbow that misses.

Andreev working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Child doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Child manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Child trying to control the position from guard on top but Andreev is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Child wants to pass the guard but Andreev is keeping the position.
Child is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Mad Child.
Child lands a nice hook to Andreev's body. Andreev takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Andreev with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Child to score with a decent uppercut.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mad Child showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Child dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Child looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Child not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Child is controlling the pace.
Child is looking to take a break and control but Andreev is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Child seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Child tries to pass to full mount but Andreev defends it.

Mad Child has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Andreev has his takedown stuffed

and Child counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Child.

Child is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Mad Child was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Andreev has his takedown stuffed
and Child counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Andreev thinking.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Child.
Andreev can't do much from the bottom here.
Child happy to just control the position for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Child looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Andreev is avoiding damage well.
Child advances to mount.
Child controlling from the full mount.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mad Child comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Child has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
