PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Trevor Koppenhaver (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and ubuntu labandi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Koppenhaver has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Trevor Koppenhaver looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Trevor Koppenhaver!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, ubuntu labandi!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
labandi fails to land the takedown.
labandi shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Koppenhaver as he avoids it easily.
labandi closes the distance and clinches up with Koppenhaver, looking for a takedown. labandi pushes Koppenhaver against the cage but Koppenhaver circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Trevor Koppenhaver has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of ubuntu labandi.
Koppenhaver shoots in for a takedown but labandi shows good takedown defense.

labandi really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Koppenhaver. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

labandi drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Koppenhaver dives on top into guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

labandi is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

labandi is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

labandi throws his legs up looking for a submission but Koppenhaver uses it to pass to side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
You can see the frustration on labandi's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Koppenhaver tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Koppenhaver lands a big shot there that rocks labandi but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

labandi is bucking up trying to escape but Koppenhaver cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Koppenhaver postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. labandi looks a forlorn figure.
labandi is looking to improve his position but Koppenhaver isn't that keen on the idea.

labandi is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Koppenhaver is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Koppenhaver is going oldschool here, as he tries to force labandi to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so labandi shrugs it off.
labandi wants to control but Koppenhaver is having none of it.

Koppenhaver goes for an armbar but he's not got it… labandi turns into him and now he's in Koppenhaver's guard.

labandi drops back, looking for a kneebar! Koppenhaver looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Koppenhaver looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Koppenhaver!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if labandi can do anything to dispel that myth.

We're going to have a standup here because Trevor Koppenhaver wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Koppenhaver, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
