PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chris Davison (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dwayne Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Davison comes into the arena with Indestructible blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as Dwayne Johnson enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dwayne Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Leandro Rodrigues and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Johnson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Davison's guard.
Johnson wants to control from the top but Davison keeps moving.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Johnson distracts Davison with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Davison is pulling down on Johnson's head to control his posture.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Johnson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Davison wants to sweep here but Johnson controlling him for the moment.
Davison manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Johnson manages to get himself to full guard.
Davison chips away with some ground and pound.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Davison decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Johnson, up you get!
Davison looks for a takedown but Johnson sprawls well.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Johnson on the wrong end of a nice hook.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Chris Davison will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Davison misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Johnson swings for the body but Davison moves out of range.
Davison steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Johnson.
Davison dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Johnson. That did some damage!

It looks like Chris Davison has been cut.

Davison shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Johnson pinned against the cage. Johnson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Davison connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Johnson displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Davison throws out the jab.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Johnson can do anything to dispel that myth.

Johnson is doing well to control the position and prevent Davison from advancing to side control.
Johnson is looking to control Davison's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Johnson avoid being mounted?

Johnson holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Davison tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Johnson is looking to improve his position but Davison isn't that keen on the idea.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Davison manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Davison here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Johnson slips a straight right by Davison.

Davison changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Johnson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Davison has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Well Davison has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
