Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Orlando Cardigan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bruce McGoose (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Orlando Cardigan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bruce McGoose!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Winston Howard and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cardigan closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Cardigan lands in his opponent's guard.
McGoose has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Cardigan trying to control but McGoose is working from the bottom.
McGoose is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

McGoose had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Cardigan defends it easily.
McGoose is trying to control the position but Cardigan postures up.
Cardigan passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Cardigan is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, McGoose has escaped the position, nice work there.
McGoose is working to avoid the ground and pound but Cardigan connects with a decent elbow.
McGoose regains half guard.
Cardigan uses his free foot to push down on McGoose's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for McGoose.

Cardigan moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, McGoose has worked his arm free - good work by McGoose!

Cardigan working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
McGoose tries to improve position but can't.
McGoose is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Cardigan off and has taken his back!
Cardigan is trying to break free.
Cardigan trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cardigan tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
McGoose is landing with some decent strikes but Cardigan is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
McGoose looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Cardigan tries to improve his position but instead McGoose has taken his back!
McGoose controls the action.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - McGoose's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

Cardigan looking very determined here, making life difficult for McGoose.
McGoose is punishing Cardigan with strikes - can he finish him?!
McGoose wants to control the position but Cardigan frees himself and scrambles - McGoose manages to regain control in side control.
Cardigan is looking to reverse the position.

Cardigan wants to control but McGoose is keeping busy and won't allow it.

McGoose seems to be looking for submissions.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
McGoose moves nicely into side control.
Cardigan parries the strikes from McGoose easily there. McGoose is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Cardigan to escape.
McGoose has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Cardigan!
McGoose tries to control but Cardigan wriggling away.
Cardigan is working to get back to half guard.
Cardigan is breathing heavily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

McGoose looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Bruce McGoose will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Cardigan fails with an attempt to clinch.
McGoose throws a series of punches but Cardigan avoids them all with ease.
Cardigan tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Cardigan fails in his attempt to clinch.
McGoose misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Cardigan tries to clinch up but McGoose circles away and keeps his distance.
The fight stays on the outside here - Cardigan looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Cardigan throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McGoose moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
McGoose swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
McGoose throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Cardigan doesn't manage to clinch there - McGoose circles away.
Cardigan fails with a takedown attempt.
Orlando Cardigan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cardigan tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but McGoose paws at him with a jab and circles away.
McGoose throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

McGoose shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Cardigan's guard.
Cardigan manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Cardigan throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
McGoose is desperately trying to improve his position but Cardigan has a good base and remains in mount.
McGoose tries to lock up and control but Cardigan gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
McGoose keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
McGoose wants to hold on but Cardigan pushes him away.
McGoose regains half guard.

Cardigan lands with a punch from half guard.
McGoose is refusing to be controlled, as Cardigan sits in half guard.
Cardigan thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed McGoose's head.

Cardigan is trying to work for a kimura but McGoose is defending well.
Bruce McGoose has got the better of the ground game so far.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
McGoose is trying to maintain the position but Cardigan is very close to passing his half guard.
McGoose is in trouble now - Cardigan has advanced to mount!
McGoose tries to hold on but Cardigan postures up.

Cardigan with shots to the head and body - McGoose looks very uncomfortable down there.
McGoose's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
McGoose keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Cardigan can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as McGoose is looking to escape.
McGoose wants to hold on but Cardigan pushes him away.

Cardigan has control of McGoose's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and McGoose regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Cardigan working for a guillotine from mount but McGoose is in no mood to give up.
Cardigan trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Cardigan prevents McGoose from getting the reversal.
Cardigan misses with a head shot.

Cardigan jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… McGoose is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by McGoose and Cardigan has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

McGoose wants to control but Cardigan postures up.
McGoose gets back to half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Cardigan lands a nice short elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Orlando Cardigan dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


McGoose avoids a low kick by using good footwork.

Cardigan shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches McGoose napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Cardigan thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
McGoose sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
McGoose tries to get to full guard but Cardigan has control of the leg.

Cardigan is sneakily working for an arm triangle but McGoose sees it coming and defends easily.
Cardigan working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
McGoose tries to roll over but Cardigan keeps him under control.

Cardigan is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. McGoose doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Cardigan.

Cardigan looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
McGoose gets back to full guard.
Cardigan passes McGoose's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Cardigan seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but McGoose does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
McGoose moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
McGoose is trying to keep Cardigan in close.
Cardigan won't allow McGoose to sweep him here.
Cardigan postures up.
Cardigan throwing strikes but missing.
Cardigan trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
McGoose preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Cardigan throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Cardigan drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but McGoose manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Cardigan has McGoose in his guard.

Cardigan tries to get to full guard but McGoose has control of the leg.
McGoose moves nicely into side control.
McGoose is looking to take a break and control but Cardigan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Cardigan is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked McGoose off and has taken his back!

Cardigan somehow managing to miss with a strike from the back.

McGoose is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
McGoose trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
McGoose wants to get back to his feet.

Cardigan patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
