PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Hannu Yabal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gilmar Fonseca (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Yabal comes into the arena with New Divide, Linkin Park blaring out of the sound system. Gilmar Fonseca acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, Hannu Yabal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Gilmar Fonseca!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Steven Brown and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Fonseca or perhaps it was just good defense by Yabal which made him look bad.
Yabal misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Fonseca.
Yabal throws a shot from downtown. Fonseca moves away and avoids it.
Fonseca changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Yabal tries to avoid it but Fonseca manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Yabal to the ground. Yabal escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Fonseca closes this distance looking for a takedown but Yabal circles away.
Hannu Yabal has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gilmar Fonseca.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Fonseca crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Yabal - the referee stops the clock and Fonseca gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Yabal. Fonseca manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Fonseca closes the distance and clinches up with Yabal, looking for a takedown. Fonseca pushes Yabal against the cage but Yabal circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Nice takedown defense from Yabal. No joy for Fonseca on that attempt.
Gilmar Fonseca seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Yabal gets a clinch.
Yabal scores with a shot to the side of Fonseca's head.
Fonseca goes for a takedown in the clinch but Yabal prevents it.
A left hand lands to the body for Yabal.
Yabal throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Fonseca blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Fonseca tries for a takedown. No joy.
Yabal lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Yabal scores with a shoulder strike.
Fonseca avoiding damage as Yabal throws knees to the body.
Come on Yabal - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Fonseca wants a takedown.
Yabal stalling.

Yabal lands a body punch in the clinch.
Yabal lands an elbow inside.
Yabal creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Fonseca's defenses.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Yabal takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Yabal stops a takedown attempt from Fonseca.
Fonseca wants a takedown but no success here.
Yabal lands a hook to the side of the head.
Yabal creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Fonseca's defenses.
Yabal leaning his opponent against the cage.
Fonseca drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Fonseca looks gassed!
Yabal scores with a nice hook to the head.
Yabal is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Fonseca is defending well for now.
Fonseca changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Yabal fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Yabal misses with an uppercut.
Yabal stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Yabal wants it to stay on the feet.
Fonseca shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Yabal pinned against the cage. Yabal gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Fonseca shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Fonseca was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Yabal is trying desperately to improve position.
Yabal is working hard here to advance position.
Yabal is controlling an arm, preventing Fonseca from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Yabal is working to get back to half guard.

Fonseca with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Fonseca wants to finish this one by submission but Yabal is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Fonseca.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Yabal tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Fonseca is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Yabal has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Yabal!
Yabal has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Fonseca is trying to control the position but Yabal postures up.
Fonseca is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Yabal passes Fonseca's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Yabal throwing shots but Fonseca is blocking nicely.
Yabal wants to pass the guard but Fonseca is defending well.
Fonseca moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Fonseca is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Fonseca slips a nice elbow through Yabal's hands, connecting with Yabal's forehead.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Fonseca is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Yabal doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Fonseca.

Fonseca seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Yabal is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Gilmar Fonseca!
