PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jeremiah Trout (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thomas Engine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jeremiah Trout!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Thomas Engine!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Mauricio Rocha and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Engine looks for a takedown but Trout sprawls well.
Trout looks for the body kick but Engine saw that one coming.
Engine tries to score a power double leg takedown but Trout sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Engine somewhat.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Trout pulls out of a head kick attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Trout goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Trout moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Trout tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Trout throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Engine wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Trout scores with a push kick.
Engine looks gassed!

Trout misses with an uppercut. Engine saw that one coming.
Engine looks for a takedown but Trout sprawls well.
Jeremiah Trout has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Thomas Engine.

Engine shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Trout napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Engine tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Engine is trying to move to mount but Trout reverses beautifully and ends up in Engine's guard.

Engine is looking for a triangle but Trout pushes his legs off easily.

Engine is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Engine has his foot on Trout's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Trout works his way back into a safe position though.

Engine looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Trout has picked Engine up and slammed him! Engine can't keep hold of the triangle and Trout manages to pass to side control!
Engine is looking to regain half guard here but Trout keeps moving and retains side control.
Engine is trying to control Trout's posture but Trout avoids it.
Engine is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Trout knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Engine on the ground.
Engine is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Trout's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Engine tries to roll over but Trout keeps him under control.
Trout passes into side control, despite Engine's attempt to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jeremiah Trout dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Engine blocks a head kick by Trout.
Trout throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Trout misses with a head kick.
A chopping leg kick lands by Trout.
Trout defending well as Engine loads up on a big left hand.
Trout throws a head kick but Engine moves out of range.
Trout defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Engine.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Engine shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Trout is trying to defend but Engine finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Engine prevents Trout from standing back up.
Trout is refusing to be controlled, as Engine sits in half guard.
Engine trying to advance position but Trout counters by regaining guard.
Engine wants to pass the guard but Trout is keeping the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Engine throws a strike but Trout rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Engine is looking for a triangle but Trout pushes his legs off easily.

Engine is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Engine escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Trout gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Engine throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Trout escapes and throws Engine's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Engine is looking to reverse the position.
Engine is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Engine regains half guard.
Engine manages to get to full guard.
Engine trying to control the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Engine is looking for a triangle but Trout pushes his legs off easily.
Engine has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Thomas Engine will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Trout's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Engine closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Trout is not content to let Engine control the position.
Engine connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Trout some visible discomfort.
Engine working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Trout managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Engine.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Engine trying to control the position but Trout is working away.

Engine tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
You can see the frustration on Trout's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Engine lands a nice forearm strike.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Engine thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Trout is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Engine off and has taken his back!
Engine breaks Trout's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Engine trying to control but Trout is working from the bottom.
Engine looking to pass the guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Engine loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Engine trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Engine postures up in Trout's guard and throws a big left but Trout blocks it.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Trout here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Trout can't keep his opponent in guard - Engine advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Engine missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Engine trying to pass the guard but Trout defending well.
Trout has hold of Engine's hands but Engine slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Engine throws a strike but Trout avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Trout utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Engine scoring with punches to the head and body.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Engine accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Engine advances position into side control!

And that's the end of the fight!
Thomas Engine comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Engine has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
