PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Joao Granada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcelio Garcia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Granada comes to the cage accompanied by Vida Loka - Racionais MC's. On his way into the cage it seems that Joao Granada has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Joao Granada seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joao Granada!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Marcelio Garcia!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Alexandre Firmino and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Garcia throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Granada tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Garcia is in Granada's guard.
Granada not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Garcia controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Granada looking to hit a scissor sweep but Garcia is one step ahead there.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Granada enables Garcia to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Granada manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Garcia perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Marcelio Garcia hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Granada fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Garcia manages to avoid it.
Garcia looks for a takedown but Granada sprawls well.

Garcia closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Garcia is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Granada is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Garcia got a little sloppy there for a moment and Granada has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Garcia has managed to get both his arms back between Granada's legs - danger averted.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Marcelio Garcia hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Garcia feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Garcia changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Granada tries to avoid it but Garcia manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Granada to the ground. Granada escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Joao Granada has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marcelio Garcia.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Granada bucks up and throws Garcia to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape!
Garcia bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

and Granada counters with a shoot takedown. Garcia fights it but they end up in guard.

Granada is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Garcia is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Joao Granada.

Garcia changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Granada looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

I think Garcia has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
