PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Brent Robertson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Xayle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Xayle comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Ready For War - 50 Cent (Instrumental) kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as John Xayle enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Brent Robertson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, John Xayle!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Nard Betker and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Robertson feints and then cracks Xayle's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Xayle down.
Robertson throws a head kick that misses.
Robertson shoots in looking for a takedown. Xayle tries to sprawl out of it but Robertson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Xayle manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Robertson fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Xayle avoids it really well and circles away.
Xayle doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Robertson counters with a shoot takedown. Xayle fights it but they end up in guard.

Robertson decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Xayle, up you get!
Robertson is looking to clinch but Xayle is avoiding it.

Xayle drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Robertson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Xayle doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Xayle manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Robertson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Xayle engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Xayle is looking to stand up but Robertson won't let him.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Xayle stands and steps away. Robertson gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

so Robertson counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Xayle wants to stand up but Robertson is controlling him.

Robertson drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Xayle manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Robertson has Xayle in his guard.
Robertson wants to stand and escape but Xayle is having none of it.

Robertson looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Xayle decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Robertson, up you get!
Xayle has his takedown stuffed

and Robertson moves into the clinch.

Robertson fails to pull guard.

Xayle jumps guard and drags Robertson to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Xayle pushes Robertson off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Xayle.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Nice sprawl there from Robertson as Xayle shoots in.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Xayle wants to get back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Xayle trying to mount his opponent but Robertson defends it.
It looks like Xayle is going to stand back up.

Xayle stands up and beckons Robertson to join him on the feet.
Robertson slaps away a takedown attempt from Xayle, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Xayle is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Xayle closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Xayle lands in his opponent's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Robertson is wriggling around but Xayle manages to pass to half guard.
Robertson is trying to get back to full guard.

Xayle is pressing down on Robertson's thigh, looking to free his foot. Robertson is holding on for now.

Xayle gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

and Robertson counters by moving into the clinch.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Robertson looking to stall.

Xayle tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Robertson just stands there and leans against the cage.
Xayle is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Robertson is defending well for now.

Xayle pushes Robertson off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Xayle dives in and grabs Robertson's left leg, looking for a takedown. Robertson pushes down on Xayle's head and hops out.
Xayle throws a push kick but Robertson slaps the foot to one side.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Xayle showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

and Xayle counters with a single leg into guard. Robertson didn't expect that.
John Xayle has got the better of the ground game so far.

Xayle gets to his feet - Robertson follows without any prompting.

Xayle throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Robertson was covering up waiting for the punch and Xayle finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Xayle closes the distance and clinches up with Robertson, looking for a takedown. Xayle pushes Robertson against the cage but Robertson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Xayle is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Robertson trying to keep a closed guard but Xayle is proving a slippery customer.

Robertson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Xayle darts in trying to clinch

and Robertson counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Robertson wants to control from the top but Xayle keeps moving.

Xayle manages to escape and get back to his feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Xayle will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Xayle shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Robertson sprawls well. Robertson wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Xayle gets slowly back to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
John Xayle comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Xayle has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
