Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Trevor Gillmeister (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Shields (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Trevor Gillmeister!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jake Shields!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Gwen Towbar and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gillmeister swings for the body but Shields moves out of range.
Gillmeister misses with an uppercut.
Gillmeister throws a shot from downtown. Shields moves away and avoids it.
The fighters circle momentarily. Shields darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Gillmeister takes a swing at Shields's ribcage but misses.
Gillmeister misses with a body shot.
Shields moves out of range of the strikes.

Shields closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Shields lands in his opponent's guard.
Shields trying to control but Gillmeister is working from the bottom.
Gillmeister keeping full guard, as Shields tries to pass.
Gillmeister working a defensive guard here.
Shields trying to control the position from guard on top but Gillmeister is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gillmeister wants to stand but Shields is controlling the position.
Shields controlling from the top position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Gillmeister scores with a shot to the body.
Shields steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Gillmeister.
Shields walks into a jab.
Gillmeister misses with a hook. Shields ducked under it nicely.
Gillmeister throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Shields sees it coming and avoids it easily.
No joy there for Gillmeister, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Gillmeister throws out a loose jab but Shields uses good head movement to avoid it.
Shields fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Shields slips under a jab.
Gillmeister swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Trevor Gillmeister seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Shields changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Gillmeister looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Shields is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Gillmeister knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Shields working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Shields trying to control the position but Gillmeister is working away.
Gillmeister tries to bench press Shields off him but Shields keeps the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Shields tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Gillmeister is not content to let Shields control the position.

Shields tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Shields has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Shields is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Gillmeister is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Shields looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Gillmeister is avoiding damage well.

Shields is trying to get an arm triangle but Gillmeister is defending well.
Shields misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Gillmeister is looking for a sweep.
Shields trying to control the position but Gillmeister is working away.
Gillmeister takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Shields wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gillmeister keeps working.
Shields is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Gillmeister's shoulder. That is not cool.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Shields dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Shields scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Shields not doing much here.
Gillmeister is looking for a sweep. Shields is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Shields looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Gillmeister wants to get back to full guard.
Shields sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Gillmeister defending well though.
Shields trying to control from half guard but Gillmeister is working away.
Gillmeister knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Shields on the ground.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Shields wants to pass to mount but Gillmeister is defending the position.
Shields takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Gillmeister is not content to let Shields control the position.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Ground and pound from Shields.

Shields has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Gillmeister defend it? Shields steps over the head and cranks it - Gillmeister is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Shields!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Jake Shields!
