PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Lakanik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Viktor Boden (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Lakanik!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Viktor Boden!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Lou da Vinci and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lakanik misses with a head kick.
Lakanik scores with a kick to the midsection.
Lakanik stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Lakanik wants it to stay on the feet.

Boden closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Lakanik quickly recovers to half guard.
Lakanik keeping hold of Boden's head, controlling as best he can.
Boden is keen to just control but Lakanik is a slippery customer.
Lakanik is looking for a sweep. Boden is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Boden is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Lakanik sees it coming and defends easily.

Lakanik is looking to get back to is feet but Boden passes into side control.

Boden tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Boden has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Lakanik can't do much from the bottom here.

Boden stands up and we're back to a striking position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Lakanik swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Boden fails with the takedown.
Boden fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
John Lakanik has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Viktor Boden.

Lakanik drives through and clinches with Boden against the cage.

Lakanik breaks from the clinch.

Boden bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Boden slows the pace down.
Lakanik tries to contro but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.

Lakanik holds on to Boden as tight as he can, avoiding damage.
Boden manages to capitalize on a mistake by Lakanik to take his back!
Lakanik trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
Boden doesn't have the hooks in and Lakanik manages to turn into his guard.

Boden is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Lakanik slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Lakanik working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Boden's head.
Lakanik has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Boden is trying to keep Lakanik in close.

Lakanik gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Lakanik defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Boden.
Boden shoots in and drives through. Lakanik sprawls well.
Boden tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Lakanik counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that John Lakanik will probably get the nod.

Boden shoots and misses
and Lakanik counters with a slapping leg kick.
Boden takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

Lakanik closes the distance and clinches.

and Lakanik counters with a good, hard body kick but Boden shrugs it off.
Lakanik connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Lakanik moves into the clinch.
Boden is breathing heavily.
Lakanik is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.

Lakanik has Boden pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Lakanik pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Boden tumbling to the mat - Lakanik dives into Boden's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Lakanik is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Boden controls Lakanik momentarily but Lakanik frees himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lakanik has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Boden is proving hard to escape from.
Lakanik wants to control from the top but Boden keeps moving.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Boden looking for subs off his back but Lakanik has passed one foot through into half guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Lakanik frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Lakanik content just to control the position here.
Lakanik connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Lakanik sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Boden is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Lakanik takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Boden tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Boden tries to hold on but Lakanik pushes him away.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Boden wants to try and get back to his feet.

Boden wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Lakanik trying to control but he's not successful this time.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Lakanik dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

and Lakanik counters with a nice leg kick.
Boden takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Boden has managed to clinch.
Boden tries to pull guard but Lakanik won't allow it.
John Lakanik has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Viktor Boden.

Lakanik jumps guard.
Boden stands and throws Lakanik's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Boden stands up and we're back to a striking position.

and Lakanik counters by moving into the clinch.
Lakanik scores with a knee to the head.

Lakanik fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Boden, pushing him back against the cage.

Lakanik fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Boden.

Boden tries to keep at a distance but Lakanik has taken the fight into the clinch.
Lakanik lands a good knee to the midsection. Boden won't want to take too many of those.

Lakanik escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Lakanik is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

and Boden holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Viktor Boden has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Boden takes an elbow to the forehead.

And that's the end of the fight!
John Lakanik showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Lakanik has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
