PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Aleksandr Vahrushev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Heinz Peter Schmidt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Schmidt has chosen Erbarme, zu spät, die Hesse komme! as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Viktor Lagutenko and Sergei Dronov.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schmidt shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Vahrushev as he jumps to the side.
Vahrushev tries to clinch up but Schmidt circles away and keeps his distance.
Schmidt tries to bum rush Vahrushev with a series of wild strikes but Vahrushev uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Schmidt moves into the clinch.
Vahrushev just leaning against Schmidt, taking a breather.
Schmidt wants to break free but Vahrushev has control.
Stalling in the clinch from Vahrushev.

Vahrushev gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Vahrushev prevents Schmidt from improving his position.
Vahrushev is pressing down on Schmidt's thigh, looking to free his foot. Schmidt is holding on for now.
Schmidt is trying to stand up here but Vahrushev is controlling him well.
Vahrushev is looking to advance position but Schmidt won't allow it.

Schmidt pushes Vahrushev off and gets back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Schmidt tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Vahrushev manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Schmidt shoots in but Vahrushev avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Vahrushev darts in and clinches Schmidt up against the cage.
Vahrushev can't break the clinch.
Vahrushev has Schmidt pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Schmidt manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Schmidt has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Vahrushev regains guard immediately.
Schmidt stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Vahrushev swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Vahrushev avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Schmidt working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Vahrushev is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Vahrushev pushes Schmidt off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Vahrushev shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Schmidt napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Schmidt looks gassed!
Schmidt is looking to regain half guard here but Vahrushev keeps moving and retains side control.
Schmidt wants to get back to his feet but Vahrushev drags him back down.

Vahrushev has hold of Schmidt's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Schmidt seems comfortable defending it but Vahrushev has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Schmidt is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Schmidt is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Vahrushev couldn't care less - he's delighted!
