PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Shiko Shubaka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jesse Pajanen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Shiko Shubaka!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jesse Pajanen!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Roosa Järviläinen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shubaka fails with the takedown.

Pajanen fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Shubaka sprawls well initially but Pajanen persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Shubaka looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Shubaka looking for submissions off his back.
Pajanen prevents Shubaka from improving his position.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Pajanen in particular looking to stall.
Pajanen's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Shubaka actively working from the bottom here.
Pajanen tries to pass the half guard into mount. Shubaka knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Jesse Pajanen.
Pajanen misses with a straight left.
Pajanen jabs Shubaka to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Shubaka walks into a left hand.
Pajanen throws a low kick but Shubaka moves out of range easily.
Shubaka shoots and misses

and Pajanen counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Shubaka's guard now.
Pajanen is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Pajanen advances position into side control!
Shubaka is breathing heavily.
Pajanen moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Pajanen tries to move to mount but Shubaka blocks the move with his legs.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shubaka seems a little lost for a moment, as Pajanen dominates the positioning.

Pajanen decides to stand back up. Pajanen steps back and let's Shubaka get back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pajanen connects with a right hand. Shubaka shakes it off.
Pajanen loads up on a big right hand but Shubaka slips the punch.
Pajanen misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Shubaka.
Pajanen misses with a hook. Shubaka ducked under it nicely.
Pajanen throws a hook to the side of Shubaka's head but Shubaka sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Pajanen shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Shubaka is controlling an arm, preventing Pajanen from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Shubaka reaches up to try and control the position but Pajanen seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Shubaka rolls and tries to escape and now Pajanen has his back!
Pajanen has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Shubaka's body.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Let's hope that Pajanen has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Shubaka is trying to stand back up.
Pajanen just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jesse Pajanen dominated that round.
That's time! Shubaka's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Pajanen lands an overhand right.
Nice defenses there by Shubaka.
Pajanen cracks Shubaka with a right hand to the side of the head.
Pajanen darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Shubaka takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Pajanen lands a body shot.
Shubaka misses with a takedown
enabling Pajanen to counter with a crisp jab.
Nice body punch from Pajanen.
Shiko Shubaka is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Pajanen fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Pajanen bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Shubaka's head.

Shubaka doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Pajanen connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Shubaka uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Pajanen.
Pajanen lands a nice shot to the body.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

and Pajanen counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shiko Shubaka. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Pajanen throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Shubaka uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Pajanen.
Pajanen pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Pajanen stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Pajanen waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Shubaka.
Pajanen keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Pajanen misses with an uppercut. Shubaka saw that one coming.
Pajanen throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Pajanen gets a takedown into half guard.
Pajanen content to control rather than advance.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jesse Pajanen wasn't active enough on the ground.
Pajanen dips to his left and cracks Shubaka with an uppercut!

Pajanen closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Pajanen has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Pajanen moves to take his opponent's back.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Pajanen has both hooks in and is working for a choke. Shubaka is in real trouble here. Pajanen gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, Shubaka is tapping out! Pajanen wins by rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:22 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Jesse Pajanen!
