PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Juan Gortez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Pardo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pardo has chosen Don't Stop Believing as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Juan Gortez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Pardo!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Stewart Dunkirk and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gortez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Pardo pinned against the cage. Pardo gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Gortez shoots in for a takedown but Pardo shows good takedown defense.

Pardo shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Pardo showed some decent athleticism there.

Pardo is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Gortez is just riding it out for now. Pardo eventually gives up the hold.

Pardo is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Pardo is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Gortez!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pardo wants to control the pace but Gortez is squirming around nicely.
Gortez is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pardo looking to control but Gortez is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Pardo prevents Gortez from getting the reversal.
Pardo can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Gortez is looking to escape.
Gortez is looking to improve his position but Pardo isn't that keen on the idea.
Gortez is breathing heavily.
Gortez tries to improve his position but instead Pardo has taken his back!
Pardo has good solid back control here.
Gortez tries to escape the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Pardo tries to keep control of the position but Gortez is staying busy.

Pardo is working for a rear naked choke. Gortez is not defending it well and Pardo has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Gortez refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Gortez's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). James Pardo!
