PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sean Pierce (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fredo Corleone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Corleone has chosen The Godfather Waltz as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sean Pierce!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Fredo Corleone!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Russell Pearce and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pierce leaves Corleone with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Nice takedown defense from Pierce. No joy for Corleone on that attempt.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Corleone.
Sean Pierce has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fredo Corleone.
Corleone tries to clinch there but Pierce circles away.
Corleone dives in and grabs Pierce's left leg, looking for a takedown. Pierce pushes down on Corleone's head and hops out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Corleone looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Pierce!

Corleone shoots for a double leg takedown but Pierce sprawls well. He's pushed Corleone's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Pierce stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Pierce wants it to stay on the feet.
Pierce keeps the fight on the outside.
Pierce leaves Corleone with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Corleone shoots in for a takedown but Pierce shows good takedown defense.

and Corleone counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Pierce cracks Corleone with a big elbow.
Corleone avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Pierce.
Corleone on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Pierce tries to advance to mount but Corleone denies him.
Pierce throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Corleone works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

Pierce wants to control from the top but Corleone keeps moving.
Pierce loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Corleone utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Corleone keeping moving, preventing Pierce from controlling successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sean Pierce dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Pierce is trying to get back to full guard.

Corleone thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Corleone trying to control the position from guard on top but Pierce is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Corleone postures up and lands a big shot to Pierce's brow.

Corleone missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pierce is trying to control the position but Corleone postures up.
Pierce looking for a sweep. Not yet Pierce, not yet.
Pierce keeping moving, preventing Corleone from controlling successfully.
Corleone postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Corleone won't allow Pierce to sweep him here.
Corleone wants to control from the top but Pierce keeps moving.

Fredo Corleone has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Corleone tries to score with a low kick but Pierce moves his leg out of the way.

Corleone is looking to clinch.
Pierce with a lazy takedown attempt

and Corleone counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Corleone seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Pierce does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Corleone drops back looking for a leg! Pierce is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Pierce manages to kick Corleone off! Corleone jumps back into Pierce's guard.
Corleone advances to half guard.
Pierce is trying to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Corleone wants to control but Pierce is keeping him busy.

Pierce looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Pierce has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Corleone is working away from the top position though.
Fredo Corleone has got the better of the ground game so far.
Pierce wants to improve his position but Corleone is controlling well.
Pierce works his way to full guard. Good work.

Pierce bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Corleone's guard.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Pierceis looking to pass into half guard but Corleone pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Corleone is in guard.
Corleone passes Pierce's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Corleone is keen to just control but Pierce is a slippery customer.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fredo Corleone showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Corleone is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Pierce is looking to control Corleone's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Pierce avoid being mounted?

Pierce tries to roll over but Corleone keeps him under control.

Corleone is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Corleone is keen to just control but Pierce is a slippery customer.
Corleone thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Pierce's head.
Pierce taking some punishment here, with Corleone in his half guard.
Corleone is nestled in close to Pierce, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Pierce wants to improve his position but Corleone is controlling well.

Pierce knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Corleone on the ground.

Corleone changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Pierce looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Pierce is looking for a sweep.
Corleone gets to mount! Pierce was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Corleone breaks from Pierce's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Corleone can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Pierce is looking to escape.
Pierce is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Corleone connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Corleone scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Pierce is squirming around, avoiding Corleone's attempts to control the action.

Corleone stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Pierce drops his hands momentarily and Corleone takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Corleone tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Pierce misses with a takedown attempt

and Corleone counters with a single leg into guard. Pierce didn't expect that.
Corleone connects with a couple of short punches.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Pierce can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Corleone controls the pace.
Corleone trying to control the position from guard on top but Pierce is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Corleone gets to his feet - Pierce follows without any prompting.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Fredo Corleone comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Corleone has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
