PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jay Leno (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Nott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Leno kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is My Monologue. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jack Nott!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Leno closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Nott did well to prevent Leno getting side control.

Nott is not content to let Leno control the position.
Leno not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Leno looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Nott with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Nott gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Leno.

Nott throws a low kick, looking for Leno's leg but Leno calmly moves out of range.

Leno lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Nott circles away quickly and effectively.
Nott throws a hook but Leno blocks it.
Nott ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Leno moves away.

Leno throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Nott was covering up waiting for the punch and Leno finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Leno passes Nott's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Leno perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Leno lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Leno wants to control but Nott is keeping him busy.
Leno throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Leno is trying to control the action in half guard but Nott is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Leno prevents Nott from standing back up.
Nott is breathing heavily.

Leno has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Jay Leno just wasn't active enough.
Leno connects with a looping right hand.
Leno misses with a head kick.
Nott on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Nott looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Leno changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Leno throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Nott throws the left hand but Leno avoids the punch easily.
Leno connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Leno works the jab nicely.
Leno scores with a decent looking hook.
Leno's jab looks to have found its range, popping Nott under the eye.
Nott swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

so Leno counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Leno pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Nott is keeping the position for now.
Leno has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Leno stands up over Nott, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Leno tries to land a front kick but Nott steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Leno lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Leno is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Nott's half guard.
Leno wants to pass to mount but Nott is defending the position.
Leno is controlling the pace.
Nott takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Leno thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Nott's head.
Leno is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Nott can do to turn this around?

Well Leno has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
