PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Macapinlac Co (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeff Mangum (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mangum is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Neutral Milk Hotel. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Co walks forward, straight into a front kick from Mangum.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Mangum enables Co to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mangum manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Mangum is looking for a sweep. Co is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Co shoots in and drives through. Mangum sprawls well.
Co looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Mangum is fending him off so far but Co persists. Nope, Mangum circles away and we're back to standing.
Mangum throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Co shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Mangum sprawls well. Mangum wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Co gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Macapinlac Co. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mangum tries a head kick but it misses.

Mangum has taken the fight to the clinch.
Co looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Mangum displaying some good clinch control by pressing Co up against the ropes.

Co fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Mangum avoids it really well and circles away.

Co looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Mangum wants to control but Co is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Co wants to pass to mount but Mangum is defending the position.

Co passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Mangum!
Co has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Co tries to control but Mangum wriggling away.

Mangum manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Co seems to be looking for submissions.
Mangum is trying to stand up here but Co is controlling him well.

Mangum wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Co wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Mangum, who protects the arm well.
What's Mangum going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.

Jeff Mangum showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Mangum tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Co is able to avoid easily.
Mangum throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Jeff Mangum seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Co tries to score a power double leg takedown but Mangum sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Co somewhat.
Mangum thuds his right hand into Co's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Co is trying hard to land a takedown here. Mangum sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Mangum lets loose with a powerful body kick. Co will feel that in the morning.
Mangum wants to clinch up but Co keeps it at a distance.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Mangum tries to kick Co off but Co keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Co passes to full mount!
Co lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
You get the feeling that Mangum really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Mangum tries to hold on but Co postures up.
Co cracks Mangum with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Mangum tries to hold on but Co pushes him away.
Co is landing with some decent strikes but Mangum is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Co has his opponent pinned against the ropes, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Mangum's face.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Co cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Macapinlac Co showed his dominance in that final round.
