PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rover Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Patrick Robinson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie comes to the cage accompanied by Desperado by Los Lobos. Robinson has chosen Kid Rock - American Badass as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Robinson shoots in but no luck this time.
Robinson closes this distance looking for a takedown but Gracie circles away.
Robinson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Gracie sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Robinson somewhat.
Rover Gracie has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Patrick Robinson.
Robinson keeps the fight on the outside.
The fight stays on the outside here - Gracie looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Robinson clinches up against the cage.
Robinson has Gracie pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Gracie manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Gracie tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Robinson just stands there and leans against the cage.
Gracie wants to get back to striking at distance but Robinson won't allow it.
Gracie is trying to stall.
Robinson has Gracie pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Gracie manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
A right handed body shot lands from Gracie.

Gracie jumps into guard, dragging Robinson to the mat.
Gracie is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Gracie manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Robinson manages to get himself to full guard.

Gracie drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gracie jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Gracie forces his way into half guard.

Gracie is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Gracie seems to be looking for submissions.
Robinson wants to control but Gracie is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Gracie is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Robinson!
Robinson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gracie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Robinson is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Gracie throws some wild stikes that Robinson manages to avoid easily.

Gracie is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Robinson is surviving well by controlling Gracie's body position as best he can.

Gracie goes for an armbar but Robinson turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Robinson.

Gracie is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Robinson defends well.

Robinson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Robinson is in close to Gracie's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Robinson lands a couple of digs.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gracie is on top in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This has been an exciting period of action!
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gracie accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Gracie drops back looking for a leg! Robinson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Robinson manages to kick Gracie off! Gracie jumps back into Robinson's guard.
Robinson pulls Gracie in to control the position.

Robinson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Gracie trying to control but Robinson is working from the bottom.
Robinson is looking to stand up but Gracie isn't so interested in that idea.

Gracie is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Robinson is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Robinson has escaped and now he's on top!
Robinson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Gracie has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Robinson doesn't defend quickly enough and Gracie has managed to lock this one up! Can Robinson escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Gracie on a fantastic submission victory.
