PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Hurley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Cong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hurley kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Fools Gold. Paul Hurley has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Paul Hurley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jason Cong!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Wesley Smith and Tiny Johnson.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cong lands a front kick.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Cong.
Hurley defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Cong.
Cong fails with a takedown attempt.
Paul Hurley has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jason Cong.
Cong throws a sloppy head kick and Hurley moves out of range easily.
Cong tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Cong shoots in looking for a takedown. Hurley tries to sprawl out of it but Cong keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Hurley manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Hurley drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hurley jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Cong looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hurley stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cong swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Cong throws a sloppy head kick and Hurley moves out of range easily.
Cong misses with a takedown attempt

and Hurley counters with a nice double leg into side control. Cong won't be happy with that.
Hurley remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Hurley is looking to take a break and control but Cong is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Hurley has hold of Cong's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Cong tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Hurley cranks the arm and Cong screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Cong, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
