The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Aoki gets caught flat footed, as Payne shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Aoki looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Aoki wants to control the position but Payne says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Payne knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Aoki on the ground.

Aoki wants to stand up but Payne is controlling him.
Aoki looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Payne puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Aoki is looking for a sweep. Payne is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Aoki is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Payne is aware though and is defending well.

Aoki is looking to sinch up a triangle. Payne throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Aoki's body to avoid the submission. Aoki has instead reached around Payne's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Aoki arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
