Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Shane Carwin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alexandr Vatin!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Vladimir Khabensky.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Carwin.
Vatin shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Carwin counters with a takedown into side control.
An elbow from Carwin crashes against the mat.
Check out the look on Carwin's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
You can see the frustration on Vatin's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Vatin takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Carwin working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Sloppy strikes there by Carwin.
Vatin parries the strikes from Carwin easily there. Carwin is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Vatin to escape.
Vatin dodges the ground and pound from Carwin.
Vatin can't do much from the bottom here.
Carwin misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Vatin regains half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carwin thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Carwin throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Vatin keeping hold of Carwin's head, controlling as best he can.
Vatin is trying to maintain the position but Carwin is very close to passing his half guard.
Vatin wants to improve his position but Carwin is controlling well.
Vatin trying to hold on to Carwin's head to control him but Carwin postures up.
Carwin seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Vatin does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Carwin thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Vatin's head.
Vatin is doing well to control the position and prevent Carwin from advancing to side control.
Vatin blocking the ground and pound attempt from Carwin.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Alexandr Vatin.
Carwin misses with a takedown
and Vatin holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Vatin trying to control the position but instead, Carwin has worked for underhooks and has pushed Vatin into the cage.
Vatin gets underhooks to prevent Carwin's takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shane Carwin. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Carwin is breathing heavily.
Vatin is pressed up against the cage. Carwin has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Vatin down to the mat. Vatin avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Alexandr Vatin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Carwin closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Carwin chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Vatin can pounce on him.
Vatin closes the distance and lands a one-two.
It looks like Shane Carwin has been cut.
Vatin tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Carwin counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Vatin is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a tringle but Carwin frees his head nicely. Oh but Vatin has switched to an armbar! Carwin is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
