Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Petey Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Samuel Syth (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Petey Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Samuel Syth!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Franklyn Lucas and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Syth closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Smith to the mat! Smith manages to get full guard.
Syth slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Syth pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Smith is keeping the position for now.
Smith keeping moving, preventing Syth from controlling successfully.
Syth stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Smith swivels though and keeps the full guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Syth is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Syth won't allow Smith to get back to his feet.

Samuel Syth has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Smith shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Smith showed some decent athleticism there.

Syth had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Smith defends it easily.

Smith could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Smith stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Syth swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Smith wants to control from the top but Syth keeps moving.
Smith is really struggling to control Syth but he's trying to hold on to the position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Smith makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Smith trying to control but Syth is working from the bottom.
Smith controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Syth working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Smith.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smith postures up and lands a big shot to Syth's brow.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Petey Smith will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Smith misses with a takedown attempt - Syth sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Syth lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Smith is pressing down on Syth's thigh, looking to free his foot. Syth is holding on for now.
Smith is looking to take a break and control but Syth is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Syth is not content to let Smith control the position.

Smith wants to work for an arm triangle but Syth is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Smith slips a nice elbow through Syth's hands, connecting with Syth's forehead.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Smith connects with a nice short shot to Syth's temple.
Smith thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Syth's head.
Syth on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Smith seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Syth does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Smith thows a huge punch but Syth dodges it nicely.

Smith is trying to control. Syth wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Syth is looking to control Smith's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Syth avoid being mounted?

Smith is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Syth is just riding it out for now. Smith eventually gives up the hold.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Syth shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Syth was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Petey Smith is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Smith seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Syth for as long as he can get away with.
Smith's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Petey Smith just wasn't active enough.
Smith closes the distance and clinches up with Syth, looking for a takedown. Smith pushes Syth against the cage but Syth circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

And that's the end of the fight!
Petey Smith showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Smith, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
