Cena's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, John Cena - My Time Is Now. Reynald Mercier will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cena closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Mercier quickly recovers to half guard.
Mercier makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Mercier.
Mercier looking to control.
Cena throws and elbow that misses. Mercier uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Cena's guard. Nice move by Mercier!
Cena is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Mercier trying to control the position from guard on top but Cena is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Cena escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mercier gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Cena seems a little lost for a moment, as Mercier dominates the positioning.
Cena is trying to get back to half guard.
Cena sneaks back into half guard.

Mercier is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Cena wants to get back to full guard.
Cena knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mercier on the ground.
Cena is breathing heavily.
Mercier wants to control but Cena is keeping him busy.
Mercier moves nicely into side control.

Mercier takes a little break here. Cena wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Cena is not content to let Mercier control the position.
Cena takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mercier wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Cena, who protects the arm well.
