Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Riel Reyes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Keijo Kultainen!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Reyes fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Kultainen, pushing him back against the cage.

Kultainen breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A head kick misses from Kultainen.
Kultainen shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Reyes but Reyes pushes him off and we're back to square one.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Kultainen is defended easily by Reyes.
Reyes throws a leg kick but Kultainen sees it coming and checks it nicely.

Reyes drops Kultainen with a nice combination! Reyes dives into Kultainen's guard, looking to finish!


Kultainen is rocked!


It looks like Keijo Kultainen has been cut.
Reyes looking to pass the guard.
Kultainen is still in real trouble! Can Reyes finish him?
Reyes has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Reyes postures up.
Kultainen seems to have recovered his senses.
Reyes is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Reyes got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kultainen has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Reyes has managed to get both his arms back between Kultainen's legs - danger averted.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Reyes passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.

Kultainen is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Kultainen lands a body shot.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Kultainen enables Reyes to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Kultainen manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Reyes scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Kultainen is trying to keep Reyes in close.
Kultainen looks gassed!

Reyes stands and steps away. Kultainen gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Kultainen doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Reyes counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Riel Reyes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Keijo Kultainen.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Reyes wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kultainen keeps working.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Reyes is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Reyes perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Reyes lands a nice short elbow.
Reyes is trying to control. Kultainen wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Reyes decides to stand up.

Reyes moves into the clinch.

Reyes breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Reyes instigates a clinch.

Reyes turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Reyes manages to end up in side control.
Kultainen can't do much from the bottom here.

Reyes stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Kultainen gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Reyes pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kultainen is keeping the position for now.

Reyes gets to his feet - Kultainen follows without any prompting.
Reyes throws a low kick but Kultainen moves out of range easily.

Reyes closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Reyes is pressing down on Kultainen's thigh, looking to free his foot. Kultainen is holding on for now.

Reyes gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Reyes lands a head shot.

Reyes shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Reyes showed some decent athleticism there.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kultainen trying to control but Reyes postures up.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Reyes decides to return to a standing position.

Reyes clinches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Riel Reyes dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Keijo Kultainen's cut.
That's time! Reyes's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Reyes connects with a looping right hand.
Kultainen shoots and misses
enabling Reyes to counter with a crisp jab.
Reyes scores with a jab. Kultainen acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

Kultainen shoots in for a takedown but Reyes shows good takedown defense.
Reyes looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Reyes bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Reyes lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Reyes working the head and body with strikes.
Reyes scores with a couple of short elbows.
Reyes creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Reyes has an Americana. Kultainen didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Reyes is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Reyes hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
