PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Reaper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gabe Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, John Reaper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Gabe Silva!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Yuuki Gou and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva slips a jab from Reaper.
Reaper throws an overhand right that lands on Silva's shoulder, as Silva tries to avoid the shot.

Reaper drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Sloppy strikes there by Reaper.
Silva tries to improve position but can't.
Silva is trying to control Reaper's posture but Reaper avoids it.
Reaper is looking to take a break and control but Silva is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Silva is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Reaper looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Silva is avoiding damage well.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Reaper wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Reaper misses with a looping right.

Silva moves in looking to clinch but Reaper pushes him off.

Reaper lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Silva wants to clinch but Reaper slips to the side
and Reaper counters with a nice uppercut.

Reaper closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Silva looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Reaper pushes past his half guard into mount!

Silva is rocked!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Reaper lands a nice shot to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Reaper ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Silva moves away.
Reaper is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Silva.
Reaper takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Silva wants to clinch but Reaper slips to the side

and Reaper counters with a shoot takedown. Silva fights it but they end up in guard.

Silva is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Reaper is aware though and is defending well.
Reaper might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Reaper wants to control from the top but Silva keeps moving.
Reaper stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Silva swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Reaper got a little sloppy there for a moment and Silva has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Reaper has managed to get both his arms back between Silva's legs - danger averted.
Reaper wants to pass the guard but Silva is keeping the position.

Silva had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Reaper defends it easily.
Reaper stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Silva swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Reaper is working hard here to advance position.
Reaper slips nicely into half guard.
Reaper takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Silva is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Silva is looking for a sweep. Reaper is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Reaper throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Reaper is nestled in close to Silva, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Silva is trying to maintain the position but Reaper is very close to passing his half guard.

Reaper wants to take a breather but Silva is having none of it.

Reaper is looking to advance position but Silva won't allow it.

Reaper is keen to just control but Silva is a slippery customer.
Silva makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Silva.
Reaper wants to pass the guard but Silva is keeping the position.
Reaper passes Silva's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Reaper stalling away here and it's allowed Silva to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Reaper has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Silva escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Reaper gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Silva takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Reaper thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Silva's head.

The fighters are battling for position here. Silva manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Reaper thows a big elbow that misses.
Silva is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Silva has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Reaper is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Silva.
Gabe Silva has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Silva is looking to improve his position but Reaper isn't that keen on the idea.
Reaper postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Silva looks a forlorn figure.

John Reaper is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

John Reaper showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Reaper has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
