PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Karl Salmon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and George Sots (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Karl Salmon had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 157.8lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. George Sots has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Karl Salmon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, George Sots!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Hugh Johnson and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Salmon is looking to clinch but Sots is avoiding it.
Salmon looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Sots avoids a punch combination nicely.
Good exchange - Sots coming out on top.
Salmon takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Sots lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Sots lands a really nice looking cross but Salmon seems unphased.
Salmon fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Sots avoids it really well and circles away.
Sots stuffs the takedown attempt from Salmon. Salmon gets slowly back to his feet.
Salmon showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Sots.
Sots lands with a nice combination. Salmon backs away looking to recover.


It looks like Karl Salmon has been cut.

Sots throws a right and a left that Salmon avoids nicely.
Sots throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Salmon walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Salmon avoids a punch combination nicely.

Nice combo by Sots! Oh, that's hurt him - Salmon falls to the canvas and Sots follows him into side control.


Salmon is rocked!
The strikes coming from Sots are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
A lull in the action here as Sots stalls from top position.
Sots tries to advance to mount but can't.
Sots postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sots is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Check out the look on Sots's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Sots fails to land a wild elbow strike.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Sots passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Salmon!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sots jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Salmon manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Sots slows the pace down.
Sots really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Salmon. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Sots throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Sots throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Sots fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Sots takes a little break here. Salmon wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Sots misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Salmon is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Sots throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Salmon stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
A punch combination from Sots misses.
Salmon shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Sots throws a series of punches but Salmon avoids them all with ease.
Salmon tries to move into range but Sots moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
No joy there for Sots, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Salmon slips a jab and a cross from Sots.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Sots, as that shot connected.
Sots throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Salmon on the side of the head.

Sots lands a jab to Salmon's midsection.
Sots lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Sots catches Salmon with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Sots fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Salmon on the side of the head.
Sots lands with a nice combination. Salmon backs away looking to recover.

Sots steps into range and cracks Salmon with a monster punch that buckles his knees! Salmon flops backwards and Sots dives into his guard looking to finish!
Oh Salmon is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Salmon keeping moving, preventing Sots from controlling successfully.
Salmon seems to have got his legs back now.
Sots works over Salmon with some ground and pound from guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sots postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Salmon can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Sots controls the pace.
Sots working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Sots must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Sots postures up in Salmon's guard and throws a big left but Salmon blocks it.
Sots loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Sots trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Salmon utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Sots drops back looking for a leg! Salmon is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Salmon manages to kick Sots off! Sots jumps back into Salmon's guard.
Salmon wants to sweep here but Sots controlling him for the moment.

Salmon is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Sots is controlling him.
Sots stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Salmon swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Sots throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Sots throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Salmon works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
A cross from Sots lands.
Sots closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Sots stalks Salmon and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Salmon's face. Salmon staggers backwards, shaken.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Nice shot lands for Sots.
Danga de danga de dang - Sots scores with a four punch combination!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

George Sots showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Sots lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Sots connects with a jab.
Sots thuds his right hand into Salmon's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Salmon gets caught by a brutal right hook which buckles his knees! Salmon tries to backpedal with his spaghettilegs but Sots is headhunting and goes for the kill. A jab and a right hook connect and Salmon buckles badly as his eyes roll back. The referee steps in and saves Salmon!! Salmon is complaining but he was clearly out on his feet. Sots throws his mouthpiece into the crowd. Mmmm spit-tastic.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:22 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). George Sots!
