PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kanbei Shimada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shingo Takeda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shimada's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Party and Bullshit. Takeda has chosen TAKEDA as his entrance music. Kanbei Shimada has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kanbei Shimada!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shingo Takeda!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Kenichi Hosakawa and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shimada lands with a cross.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Takeda enables Shimada to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Takeda manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Shimada postures up and lands a big shot to Takeda's brow.

Takeda looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Shimada throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Shimada throws a big right hand that misses.
Shimada trying to control the position from guard on top but Takeda is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Takeda wants to stand but Shimada is controlling the position.

Takeda working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Shimada doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Shimada manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Shimada has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Shimada missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Shimada slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Shimada wants to control from the top but Takeda keeps moving.
Takeda wants to sweep but no luck.
Takeda controls Shimada momentarily but Shimada frees himself.

That's one minute gone in the round.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Shingo Takeda wasn't active enough on the ground.
Takeda lands a body shot.
Takeda tries to clinch but Shimada is having none of it.
An inside leg kick lands from Shimada.
Jab, jab by Shimada - just one landing.
Shimada ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Takeda tries to clinch up

and Shimada counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Takeda's guard now.
Takeda wants to hit a switch here but Shimada passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Takeda there!
Takeda really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Shimada. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Shimada controlling the pace for now.
Shimada tries to control but Takeda wriggling away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Shimada controlling his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Takeda defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Shimada.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Shimada lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Takeda is desperately trying to improve his position but Shimada has a good base and remains in mount.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Shimada with shots to the head and body - Takeda looks very uncomfortable down there.
Takeda wants to get back to his feet.

Takeda working to try and regain half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Shimada working for a submission but Takeda is keeping him at bay.
Takeda is in a horrible position here. Shimada smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Takeda bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Shimada looking to hit a scissor sweep but Takeda is one step ahead there.
Takeda trying to control but Shimada is working from the bottom.
Shimada will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Shimada has his foot on Takeda's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Takeda works his way back into a safe position though.
Takeda wants to pass the guard but Shimada is keeping the position.

Takeda is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Shimada has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Takeda is looking to defend but Shimada has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Takeda! Shimada pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Takeda taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Kanbei Shimada!
