PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between William Crump (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sung Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Crump comes into the arena with ac/dc- Higheway to Hell blaring out of the sound system. Sung Kim struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 187.3lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, William Crump!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sung Kim!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Hugh Johnson and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kim shoots in for a takedown but Crump shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Crump swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Kim counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Kim.
Kim tries a knee to the head but Crump blocks it.
Crump tries a knee to the head but Kim blocks it.
Crump throws a knee to the head but misses.
Kim misses with a knee to the head.

Kim gets control of Crump's arms and successfully pulls guard. Kim will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Crump avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Crump's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Crump stands up and waves to Kim to follow him.
Crump lands with a cross.

Crump tries to clinch but Kim moves out of range.
Crump throws a low kick but it's checked well by Kim.
William Crump seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A head kick misses from Crump.
Crump tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Kim closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Kim misses with a few strikes there.
Crump tries to close the distance and clinch up but Kim swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Crump throws a head kick that misses
and Kim counters with a two punch combo.
A head kick misses from Crump.
Kim lands with a nice combination. Crump backs away looking to recover.
Crump will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Crump is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Kim.

Crump misses with a body punch
and Kim counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Crump tries to clinch there but Kim circles away.
Crump lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.


It looks like Sung Kim has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kim throws a head kick that misses.
Crump throws a poor cross that misses
and Kim counters with a straight right hand.

Kim has Crump up against the cage in a clinch.
Crump throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Crump missing with knees to the body.
Kim dodges an elbow strike from Crump.
Kim is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Crump gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Crump is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Crump tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Crump throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Kims head.

Kim escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Crump fails to land with a series of punches.
Crump misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Kim gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
letting Crump counter with a right hand.
William Crump has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sung Kim.
Crump moves in looking to clinch but Kim pushes him off.
Crump feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Kims jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Kim scores with a kick to the body.
Kim scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Kim closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Crump did well to prevent Kim getting side control.
Kim looks gassed!

Kim wants to work for an arm triangle but Crump is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Crump pushes Kim off looking to stand but Kim dives back in and keeps control.
Kim trying to control from half guard but Crump is working away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kim stalling away here and it's allowed Crump to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Kim postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Crump wants to stand and escape but Kim is having none of it.
Crump keeping moving, preventing Kim from controlling successfully.
Kim wants to stand but Crump has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kim trying to control but Crump is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sung Kim dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Sung Kim's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Kim lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Crump takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Kim will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Kim shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Crump eats them both and turns towards Kim to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Crump tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Kim cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Crump blocks a head kick by Kim.
Crump throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Kim counters with a nice low kick that buckles Crump's knee momentarily.
William Crump is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Crump looks to clinch

and Kim counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Kim seems to be working for a kimura but Crump defends the submission attempt.
Crump keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Kim is breathing heavily.

Kim seems to be looking for submissions.
Kim trying to pass the guard but Crump defending well.
Kim missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Kim is working for an americana but Crump has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Kim was thinking about the submission.
Crump looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kim is one step ahead there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Kim working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Kim has gone for a leg lock! Crump slips out almost immediately though and dives into Kim's guard.

Kim is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Crump won't allow Kim to sweep him here.

Crump postures up.
Crump looking to pass the guard.
Crump has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Kim is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Crump passes Kim's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Crump decides to stand and escape the position.
Kim takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Kim is looking to land body kicks.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Sung Kim will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The cut man is working on Sung Kim's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Kim takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Crump throws a lazy body kick
and Kim cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Kim closes the distance and clinches up with Crump, looking for a takedown. Kim pushes Crump against the cage but Crump circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Crump misses with a few strikes there.
Crump throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Kim.
The fight stays on the outside here - Kim looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Crump throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Crump dips to his left and cracks Kim with an uppercut!
Kim takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Crump.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kim misses with an attempted mid kick.
Kim takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Crump tries a head kick but it misses.

Crump closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Crump pushes off an throws an elbow but Kim leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Crump throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Kim working Crump over with knees to the body.
Crump gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Crump tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Kim trying to control the position but instead, Crump has worked for underhooks and has pushed Kim into the cage.
Kim avoiding damage as Crump throws knees to the body.
Crump leaning against his opponent.
Kim dodges an elbow strike from Crump.
Crump tries to land a knee to the head but Kim blocks with his arms.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Crump tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Kim avoids it.

Kim ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Kim no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Kim tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Crump wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Crump decides to stand back up. Crump steps back and let's Kim get back to his feet.
Crump throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Kim takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
William Crump has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Crump falls off balance throwing a combination
and Kim counters with an inside leg kick.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Crump throws a left and a right that both miss

and Kim counters with a nice double leg into side control. Crump won't be happy with that.
Kim tries to advance position but instead Crump slips a leg back in to half guard.
Kim working over Crump with some ground and pound. Crump looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Kim seems to be looking for submissions.
Kim works his foot free and advances to mount.

Kim goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Crump is on top in guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kim looking for a sweep. Not yet Kim, not yet.
Kim is trying to keep Crump in close.
Crump works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Sung Kim is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kim avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Crump.

And that's the end of the fight!
William Crump showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Kim has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
