PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Douche Wellington (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cesar Azevedo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Cesar Azevedo!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Damien Edna and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wellington stuffs the takedown.

Azevedo forces Wellington back against the cage and clinches.
Azevedo is trying to break the clinch but Wellington is controlling him.

A head kick misses from Azevedo.
Azevedo tries to score a power double leg takedown but Wellington sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Azevedo somewhat.
Azevedo wants to clinch.
Azevedo fails with an attempt to clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Azevedo throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Azevedo shoots in but no luck this time.
Douche Wellington has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cesar Azevedo.

Wellington feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Azevedo throws a leg kick but Wellington sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Azevedo throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Azevedo utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Wellington tries to free his leg and advance position but Azevedo is retaining full guard.

Azevedo on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Azevedo is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Wellington scores with a couple of nice shots.
Wellington landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Wellington looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Azevedo with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Wellington is trying to control the action in half guard but Azevedo is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Azevedo can do anything to dispel that myth.

Wellington is really struggling to control Azevedo but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Azevedo seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Wellington does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Wellington has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Azevedo off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Wellington throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Azevedo was covering up waiting for the punch and Wellington finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Wellington has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

That was a close second round but I would say that Douche Wellington will probably get the nod.

Azevedo is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Wellington asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Wellington laying and praying for a moment but Azevedo takes advantage and regains half guard.
Azevedo wants to improve his position but Wellington is controlling well.
Cesar Azevedo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Wellington is taking a breather. Azevedo says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Douche Wellington.
Well Wellington has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
