PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dan Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Harley Tanner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Davis comes into the arena with Mobb Deep - Survival Of The Fittest blaring out of the sound system. Harley Tanner is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Donatello Bradman and Skip Squint.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tanner looks for a takedown but Davis sprawls well.
Tanner shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Davis as he avoids it easily.
Davis throws a nice head kick!

Davis takes the fight into the clinch.

Davis breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Davis cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Tanner is not content to let Davis control the position.
Davis prevents Tanner from improving his position.
Tanner has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Davis is working away from the top position though.
Tanner is pressing down on Davis's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Tanner is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Davis pushes Tanner off looking to stand but Tanner dives back in and keeps control.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Tanner takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Dan Davis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Davis cracks Tanner with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

That was a close round but I would say that Dan Davis will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Tanner is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Tanner is looking for a sweep. Davis is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Tanner wants to get back to his feet.
Tanner wants to control but Davis is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Tanner slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Tanner working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Davis doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Davis manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Harley Tanner showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Davis uses his free foot to push down on Tanner's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Tanner.

Davis throws a sloppy head kick and Tanner moves out of range easily.
Davis throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Davis tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Tanner swivels and escapes.
