Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Friedrich Engels (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and The Stig (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Friedrich Engels!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, The Stig!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Richard Clark and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stig tries to clinch up

and Engels counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Engels.
Engels looking to sit in guard and control but Stig gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Stig trying to control but Engels is working from the bottom.
Engels wants to sweep here but Stig controlling him for the moment.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Engels throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Engels looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Engels has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Stig off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Engels closes the distance and clinches.
Stig tries to land a knee to the head but Engels blocks with his arms.
Stig throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.

Engels jumps guard and drags Stig to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Engels on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Engels tries to get out of the position.
Stig trying to control but Engels is working from the bottom.
Engels looking to hit a scissor sweep but Stig is one step ahead there.

Engels is working hard here to advance position.
Stig wants to control from the top but Engels keeps moving.

The Stig has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Engels shoots for a double leg takedown but Stig sprawls well. He's pushed Engels's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
The Stig seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Stig closes the distance but Engels moves to the side
and Engels counters with a left to the body.

and Engels decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Stig's guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Stig is trying to control the position but Engels postures up.

Engels is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Engels has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Stig is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

and Engels counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Engels.
Stig lands a nice knee to the body.
Stig being controlled against the ropes.
Stig misses with a hook from the clinch.

Engels has hold of one of Stig's legs. Stig is fighting the takedown attempt but Engels gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Engels is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Engels wants to pass the guard but Stig is keeping the position.

Engels wants to stand and escape but instead Stig has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Stig postures up.
Stig trying to control the position from guard on top but Engels is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Engels trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Friedrich Engels overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Engels is looking for a triangle but Stig pushes his legs off easily.

Engels is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Stig defends well.
Engels wants to get back to his feet but Stig is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Engels keeping moving, preventing Stig from controlling successfully.
Stig postures up.
Stig trying to control but Engels is working from the bottom.
Engels has a closed guard, preventing Stig from standing up.
Engels pulls Stig in close to prevent any damage.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Friedrich Engels wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Stig scoring well with a low kick there.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Engels.
Engels wants to stand but Stig has his arm trapped.
Stig is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Engels trying to control the pace.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Friedrich Engels will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Engels shoots in for a double leg but Stig sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Engels closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Engels is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Engels wants to lay and pray for a moment but Stig keeps working.
Engels is thwarting Stig's attempts to control the position.

Engels wants to get back to his feet.
Stig has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Engels is working away from the top position though.
Engels stalling away here and it's allowed Stig to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Engels is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Engels stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Stig swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Engels throws and elbow that misses. Stig uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Engels's guard. Nice move by Stig!
Stig engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Stig doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Engels shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Stig but Stig pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Engels closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Stig to the mat! Stig manages to get full guard.
Stig not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Engels throws a strike but Stig rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Engels is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Engels striking off his back but it's not causing Stig any problems.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Engels is trying to control the position but Stig postures up.
Stig stays in close to Engels's body and controls the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Friedrich Engels showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Engels, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
