PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gypsum Fantastic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ken Dust (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fantastic comes to the cage accompanied by "You're the best around" - Joe Esposito. Fantastic has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Gypsum Fantastic!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ken Dust!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Marco Blurström and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Fantastic tries to keep at a distance but Dust has taken the fight into the clinch.

Dust wants the takedown. Fantastic is fighting it off but Dust persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Fantastic's guard against the cage.
Fantastic can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Dust controls the pace.
Fantastic keeping moving, preventing Dust from controlling successfully.
Fantastic keeping full guard, as Dust tries to pass.
Fantastic is breathing heavily.
Dust preventing the sweep.
Dust trying to control but Fantastic is working from the bottom.
Dust throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Fantastic works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Dust is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Dust looking to pass the guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Dust tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Fantastic swivels and escapes.
No joy there for Dust, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Dust will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Dust shoots in but Fantastic avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Dust tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Fantastic paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Fantastic lands with a nice combination. Dust backs away looking to recover.
Fantastic throws a left and a right that both miss

and Dust counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Dust decides to stand and escape the position.
Dust takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Fantastic keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Gypsum Fantastic has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ken Dust.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Fantastic shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Dust as he avoids it easily.

Dust takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Fantastic rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Dust moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Dust gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Fantastic counters with a two punch combo.
Dust avoids the head kick by Fantastic.
Fantastic lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Dust closes the distance and clinches.
Dust lands a nice knee to the body.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Dust has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Fantastic uses from the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dust tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Dust looking to control.
Fantastic is looking to stand up but Dust won't let him.
Fantastic has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Dust pulls Fantastic in close to his closed guard and prevents Fantastic from doing any damage or advancing position.
Dust wants to sweep but no luck.
Dust is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Dust misses with a shot to the body
and Fantastic counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Dust thinking.

Dust drives through and clinches with Fantastic against the cage.
Dust tries to score a body lock takedown but Fantastic shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Dust is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Fantastic can't fight it off and eventually Dust manages to take the fight to the floor. Fantastic looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Dust gets to his feet - Fantastic follows without any prompting.
Fantastic connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Fantastic looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Dust fails with an attempt to clinch.
Fantastic stuffs the takedown attempt from Dust. Dust gets slowly back to his feet.
Dust will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Dust takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Fantastic misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Dust displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Fantastic throws out the jab.
Nice takedown defense from Fantastic. No joy for Dust on that attempt.

Dust scores a takedown into full mount!
Dust takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Fantastic misses with a wild combination.

and Dust counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Dust seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.


It looks like Gypsum Fantastic has been cut.
Dust stalling.

Dust decides to stand and escape the position.
Dust slips a straight right by Fantastic.
Dust fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Dust clinches up against the cage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Dust breaks the clinch.
Dust shoots for a takedown but Fantastic saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Dust uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Fantastic.
Fantastic falls off balance throwing a combination

and Dust holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Dust has picked Fantastic up - he's going for a ride! Dust dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Fantastic has one foot on Dust's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Dust shoots in looking for a takedown. Fantastic tries to sprawl out of it but Dust keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Fantastic manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Gypsum Fantastic has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ken Dust.
Fantastic tries to bum rush Dust with a series of wild strikes but Dust uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

and Dust counters with a takedown into side control.
Fantastic has control of an arm but Dust manages to advance to Dust's back!
Fantastic is taking damage to the body and head.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Dust has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Fantastic has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Gypsum Fantastic's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Gypsum Fantastic's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
