PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Simon Standa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mabishiro Sakamoto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Simon Standa is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 32 - 0, fighting out of New York, Simon Standa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 29 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mabishiro Sakamoto!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, David Schapiro and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sakamoto tries for a takedown but Standa sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Sakamoto misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Sakamoto looks to land a left hand but Standa moved out of range nicely.
Sakamoto will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Simon Standa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mabishiro Sakamoto.
Standa tries to close the distance and clinch but Sakamoto swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Standa tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Sakamoto manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Sakamoto lands a slapping body shot.

Standa shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Sakamoto napping and manages to drive through into side control!

and Standa counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Standa.

Standa not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Standa bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Sakamoto's head.

Sakamoto turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Sakamoto manages to end up in side control.

Sakamoto wants to lay and pray for a moment but Standa keeps working.
Standa is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Sakamoto is trying to control. Standa wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Standa has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Sakamoto is working away from the top position though.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Sakamoto connects with a nice short shot to Standa's temple.

and Standa counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Sakamoto wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Standa is now in half guard.

Standa wants to free his trapped foot but Sakamoto is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Standa is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Sakamoto has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Standa is working away from the top position though.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. And we move into the final round!

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Standa shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Sakamoto's guard.
Standa wants to control from the top but Sakamoto keeps moving.
Sakamoto looking to hit a scissor sweep but Standa is one step ahead there.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Sakamoto is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Sakamoto manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Standa manages to get himself to full guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Standa manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Sakamoto tries to lock up and control but Standa gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Standa wants to control the pace but Sakamoto is squirming around nicely.
Standa controlling the position easily from mount.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Standa trying to control but he's not successful this time.

And that's the end of the fight!
Simon Standa showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Standa, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
