PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vasya Vasechkin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Krystian Kaczala (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kaczala has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Krystian Kaczala has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vasya Vasechkin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Krystian Kaczala!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Igor Prikhodko and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Vasechkin.
Kaczala has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Vasechkin takes the fight into the clinch.
Kaczala is looking to break free of the clinch but Vasechkin has double underhooks.

Vasechkin escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Kaczala pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Kaczala takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Vasechkin pivots, looking for a leg kick but Kaczala is out of range and Vasechkin settles back down.
Vasechkin stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Vasechkin wants it to stay on the feet.
Vasya Vasechkin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Krystian Kaczala.

Vasechkin connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Kaczala's hands.
Kaczala is trying desperately to land a takedown but Vasechkin is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Kaczala.

Vasechkin shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Kaczala manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Vasechkin has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Kaczala is proving hard to escape from.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Vasechkin wants to stand and escape but instead Kaczala has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Kaczala is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Kaczala's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Let's hope that Kaczala has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Krystian Kaczala hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Kaczala misses with a takedown attempt

and Vasechkin decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Kaczala's guard.
Kaczala has a closed guard, preventing Vasechkin from standing up.
Vasechkin is fighting to break Kaczala's control of his arms but Kaczala is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Kaczala bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Vasechkin's guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Vasechkin pushes Kaczala off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kaczala fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Vasechkin sprawls well initially but Kaczala persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Kaczala looks to land a strike but Vasechkin avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Vasechkin shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Kaczala manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Vasechkin stands and steps away. Kaczala gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Kaczala doesn't manage to clinch there - Vasechkin circles away.
Kaczala fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Kaczala is looking to clinch but Vasechkin is avoiding it.
Vasechkin will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kaczala shoots for a double leg takedown but Vasechkin sprawls well. He's pushed Kaczala's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Kaczala closes the distance but Vasechkin moves to the side
and Vasechkin counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

enabling Vasechkin to counter with a crisp jab.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Vasechkin looks to throw the jab but Kaczala is out of range.

and Vasechkin counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Vasechkin enables Kaczala to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Vasechkin manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Kaczalais looking to pass into half guard but Vasechkin pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Vasechkin is in guard.

Kaczala has his foot on Vasechkin's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Vasechkin works his way back into a safe position though.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Well Vasechkin has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
