PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Harley Reyes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and BV Rasp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Reyes comes to the cage accompanied by Voodoo Chile (Stevie Ray Vaughan). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Harley Reyes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, BV Rasp!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Steve Smith and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reyes wants to clinch.

Reyes throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Rasp tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Reyes is in Rasp's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Rasp can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Reyes controls the pace.

Reyes got a little sloppy there for a moment and Rasp has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Reyes has managed to get both his arms back between Rasp's legs - danger averted.
Reyes postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Reyes wants to pass the guard but Rasp is keeping the position.
Rasp is trying to control the position but Reyes postures up.
Rasp wants to sweep but no luck.
Rasp has his hands on Reyes's head, controlling the position.
Reyes not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Reyes has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Harley Reyes wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Rasp jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.

Reyes fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Rasp sprawls well initially but Reyes persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Reyes is thwarting Rasp's attempts to control the position.
Reyes perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Rasp is trying to control but can't.
Reyes is controlling the pace.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Reyes shoots in for a takedown but Rasp shows good takedown defense.
Reyes shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Rasp moves into range and connects with a jab.

Rasp leaves Reyes with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Harley Reyes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Reyes is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Rasp.
Rasp is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Rasp fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Rasp chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Rasp shoots in for a double leg but Reyes sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Rasp connects with a single shot there.
Rasp shoots in and drives through. Reyes sprawls well.
Reyes throws out a powerful jab.
Rasp throws a solid leg kick but Reyes takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Rasp.
Rasp throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
A nice combination there by Rasp.
Rasp moves in looking to clinch but Reyes pushes him off.
Reyes misses with a looping right.
Rasp lands a jab to the nose.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Reyes shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rasp as he jumps to the side.

Rasp scores with the left hand. Reyes knows he should have avoided that one.
Rasp takes a swing at Reyes's ribcage but misses.

Reyes takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Rasp uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Reyes misses with a looping right.
A slapping body kick lands there for Rasp.
Reyes tries to clinch up.
Reyes slaps away a takedown attempt from Rasp, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Rasp lands a right hook to the body.
Rasp with a nice cross.
Rasp throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Rasp scores with a body shot.

Reyes closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Rasp did well to prevent Reyes getting side control.
Reyes is breathing heavily.

Rasp looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Reyes is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Reyes tries to stand but can't do so whilst Rasp controls his leg.
Rasp wants to control but Reyes is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Reyes sitting and controlling from the half guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Harley Reyes has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Reyes tries to close the distance and clinch up but Rasp swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Rasp uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Reyes scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Reyes in particular looking to stall.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Reyes seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rasp does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Harley Reyes will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Rasp changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Rasp slips a straight right by Reyes.
Rasp is looking to clinch but Reyes is avoiding it.
Reyes looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Reyes closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Rasp to the mat! Rasp manages to get full guard.
Reyes won't allow Rasp to sweep him here.

Rasp is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Reyes is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Rasp is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Reyes postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

We're going to have a standup here because Harley Reyes wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Reyes shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Rasp manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Rasp is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Reyes has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Rasp is proving hard to escape from.

Rasp is working an open guard so Reyes takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Rasp tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Reyes manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Reyes shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Reyes was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Rasp wants to hold on but Reyes pushes him away.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Rasp looks to land a right hand but Reyes moved out of range.

Reyes takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Reyes has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Rasp avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

A decent looking cross lands there for Rasp.

Reyes avoids the head kick by Rasp.
Rasp bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Reyes's head backwards.

Rasp takes the fight into the clinch.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Rasp connects with a knee to the head.
Reyes goes for a takedown in the clinch but Rasp prevents it.
Reyes has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Rasp is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Reyes has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Rasp regains guard immediately.
Reyes has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Harley Reyes overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Harley Reyes.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Reyes, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
