PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between tyrone briggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Patrick Owen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Owen has chosen M.O.P. - Ante Up as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Owen lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

Owen has managed to clinch.

briggs drags the fight down to the ground.
Owen lands a couple of digs.
Owen working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Owen wants to pass the guard but briggs is keeping the position.

briggs is working an open guard so Owen takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

briggs instigates a clinch.
briggs has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Owen is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Owen throws a blind hook that connects with the side of briggss head.
briggs is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Owen is defending well for now.

briggs shoots for a takedown but Owen saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Owen fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. briggs sprawls well initially but Owen persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Owen looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks briggs with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

briggs has his foot on Owen's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Owen works his way back into a safe position though.
Owen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with briggs. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
briggs looking to hit a scissor sweep but Owen is one step ahead there.

briggs looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Owen controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Owen stands up and waves to briggs to follow him.

A momentary lapse in concentration from briggs enables Owen to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. briggs manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Owen is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

briggs moves to clinch but Owen breaks away

and Owen counters with a nice double leg into side control. briggs won't be happy with that.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
briggs takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Owen looks up at the clock and then as briggs takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Owen smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Owen stands up and beckons briggs to his feet.

Owen postures up and lands a big shot to briggs's brow.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Owen got a little sloppy there for a moment and briggs has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Owen has managed to get both his arms back between briggs's legs - danger averted.

Owen gets to his feet - briggs follows without any prompting.

Owen has closed the distance and engaged briggs in a clinch.

Owen has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing briggs to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Owen is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - briggs pulls down on the head and he's put Owen to sleep! This one is all over!
