PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yrjo Pieru (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie comes to the cage accompanied by Born To Win. Gracie has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 26 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ryan Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yrjo Pieru!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Kenichi Hosakawa and Yukihiro Yamamoto.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie looks to throw the jab but Pieru is out of range.
Gracie avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Pieru tries to clinch up.
Gracie throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Pieru breaks from the clinch.
Pieru leaves Gracie with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Pieru fails in his attempt to clinch.
Pieru tries to close the distance and clinch up but Gracie swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Pieru rushes Gracie and presses him up against the cage.

Gracie is fighting off a takedown attempt but Pieru is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Gracie to the mat. Gracie regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Pieru is looking to work some ground and pound but Gracie has wrist control.
Pieru postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pieru missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Pieru accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Gracie wants to stand but Pieru is controlling the position.
Pieru throwing strikes from guard but Gracie blocks nicely.

Pieru trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Pieru stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gracie swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Pieru's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pieru lands a couple of elbows.
Pieru is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Gracie has momentary wrist control but Pieru slips an elbow through the middle.
Gracie is breathing heavily.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Pieru's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Pieru postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Pieru throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Gracie keeping moving, preventing Pieru from controlling successfully.
Gracie preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Pieru stands up over Gracie, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Pieru landing with the ground and pound.
Pieru postures up in Gracie's guard and throws a big left but Gracie blocks it.
Pieru works over Gracie with some ground and pound from guard.
Pieru is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pieru trying to control but Gracie is working from the bottom.
Gracie working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Pieru.
Pieru with a nice head shot there.
Pieru is in close to Gracie's body, working some short punches and elbows.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gracie can't keep his opponent in guard - Pieru advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Pieru wants to take a breather but Gracie is having none of it.
Pieru lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Gracie wants to get back to his feet.
Pieru lands with a punch from half guard.
Pieru working Gracie over with strikes.
Pieru working over Gracie with some ground and pound. Gracie looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Pieru looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Gracie with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Gracie is rocked!
Pieru winds up and cracks Gracie with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Oh Gracie is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Pieru is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Pieru looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Gracie with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Pieru is nestled in close to Gracie, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Pieru working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Pieru is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yrjo Pieru dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Pieru taking a break, stalling in the clinch.

Pieru turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Pieru manages to end up in side control.
Gracie seems to have got his legs back now.
Pieru lands a nice forearm strike.
Pieru working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Pieru creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Pieru in side control here. He's dropped a big elbow there and Gracie looks hurt! Oh, he is hurt! Pieru turns on the heat and pounds him out for a TKO victory! Good killer instinct there!
