PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Waqas Malik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Malik's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, The Final Countdown. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Waqas Malik!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bob Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Franklyn Lucas and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Malik darts in trying to clinch

and Johnson counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Johnson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Malik swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Johnson controls from within his opponent's guard.
Johnson scoring with some ground and pound.
Johnson slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Malik working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Johnson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Johnson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Malik looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Johnson stands up and waves to Malik to follow him.

Johnson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Malik escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Johnson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Johnson lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Johnson looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Johnson throwing strikes from guard but Malik blocks nicely.

Malik is working an open guard so Johnson takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Johnson throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Malik tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Johnson is in Malik's guard.
Johnson slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Johnson advances to mount.
Johnson with a couple of short strikes.
Malik tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Johnson looking to control and managing it successfully.
Let's hope that Johnson has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Johnson's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Malik is wriggling around trying to escape.
Johnson looking to finish Malik with some ground and pound. This is bad for Malik!
Malik is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Johnson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Johnson dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Johnson is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Malik sees it coming and defends easily.

Well, if Johnson is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Johnson unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Malik wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Johnson celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:42 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Bob Johnson!
