PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Yoshihirou Kamahata (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eli Cordero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yoshihirou Kamahata!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Eli Cordero!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cordero gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Kamahata to score an easy takedown into full guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Cordero must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Cordero got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kamahata has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Cordero has managed to get both his arms back between Kamahata's legs - danger averted.

Kamahata has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Cordero is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Kamahata.

That's time! Back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Kamahata feints and as Cordero raises his hands in defense, Kamahata changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Kamahata feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Kamahata is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Cordero is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Cordero has escaped and now he's on top!

Kamahata is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Cordero is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
