PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Fernando Neto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Patton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Patton comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Faith No More - Surprise You're Dead kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Fernando Neto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Michael Patton!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, John Kavanagh and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Neto closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Patton connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Neto looks for a takedown but Patton sprawls well.

Neto shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Neto showed some decent athleticism there.
Neto landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Neto missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

Neto is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Patton doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Neto.
Patton really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Neto. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Neto is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Patton doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Neto.

Neto seems to be working for a kimura but Patton defends the submission attempt.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Neto is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Patton is doing well to control the position and prevent Neto from advancing to side control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Patton can do anything to dispel that myth.
Neto has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Neto tries to push Patton's head away but Patton is holding on tight.
Neto thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Patton parries the strikes from Neto easily there. Neto is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Patton to escape.

Neto tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Neto has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The strikes coming from Neto are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Neto is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Patton is just riding it out for now. Neto eventually gives up the hold.

Neto postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Patton is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Neto, into his guard.
Neto has his hands on Patton's head, controlling the position.
Neto trying to keep a closed guard but Patton is proving a slippery customer.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Patton wants to get up but he can't break Neto's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Patton throws a hook but Neto avoids it easily.
Neto throws an off balance right hand
and Patton counters with a three punch combo that has Neto backing up. Neto nods at Patton to acknowledge the strikes.
Neto doesn't manage to clinch there - Patton circles away.
Patton connects with a body shot.
Neto thows a left - swing and a miss!
Neto will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Patton lands a body shot.

Neto fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Patton, pushing him back against the cage.
Neto blocks an uppercut.
A body shot lands from Patton.
Patton lands a right hand.
Patton misses with a body punch.
Neto tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Patton smiles and moves away.
Neto shoots in looking for a takedown but Patton manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Neto's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fernando Neto. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Neto avoids the body shot from Patton.

Fernando Neto seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Neto has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Neto is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Patton is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Neto is trying to escape the mount.

Neto controls the position.
Neto tries to hold on but Patton postures up.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Neto tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Patton is trying to stand up but he's being controlled by his opponent.
Neto is in all sorts of trouble here.
Neto sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Neto tries to get to full guard but Patton has control of the leg.
Neto wants to control but Patton is keeping busy and won't allow it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Michael Patton comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Neto has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
