The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Allen throws a jab when richardson was well out of range.
Allen keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
richardson shoots in for a double leg but Allen sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Allen feints and as richardson raises his hands in defense, Allen changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Allen postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Allen tries to free his leg and advance position but richardson is retaining full guard.
Allen postures up and lands a big shot to richardson's brow.
Allen prevents richardson from getting back to his feet.
Allen has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Allen sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed richardson's guard.
Allen wants to take a breather but richardson is having none of it.
richardson is trying to stand back up but Allen is controlling him
Allen is tying to control. richardson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Allen looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Allen uses his free foot to push down on richardson's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for richardson.

Allen thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
richardson tries to reverse the position but Allen maintains control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Allen looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Allen is breathing heavily.
richardson is working to get back to half guard.
richardson tries to buck Allen off but he can't manage it.
Allen is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. richardson is in real trouble.
richardson wants to get back to his feet.
richardson trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.

Allen tightening his grip on richardson, looking for the choke.

richardson tries to escape but Allen has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Allen is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. richardson has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Allen has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! richardson taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Allen doesn't care though - he's delighted!
