Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Max Power!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
1 - 0 - 1, fighting out of New York, Ed Sterns!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Chad Campbell and Reed Andrews.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Power swats away the attempt to clinch by Sterns.
Sterns throws out a loose jab but Power uses good head movement to avoid it.
Sterns tries a head kick but it misses.
Power closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Power lands in his opponent's guard.
Power trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Power trying to control but Sterns is working from the bottom.
Sterns is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Sterns is trying to control the position but Power postures up.
Power loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Sterns looking for a sweep. Not yet Sterns, not yet.
Sterns is trying to keep Power in close.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Sterns misses with a straight left.
Sterns checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
No joy there for Sterns, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Power shoots for a double leg takedown but Sterns sprawls well. He's pushed Power's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Power fails with a takedown attempt.
Power throws a leg kick that misses.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Power gets caught flat footed, as Sterns shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Sterns slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Sterns has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Power is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Sterns yanks on the arm and Power is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Sterns.
