The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rooney doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Patel counters with a shoot takedown. Rooney fights it but they end up in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rooney is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Patel is aware though and is defending well.
Patel throws a strike but Rooney rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Rooney looking to pass the guard.
Rooney passes Patel's left leg - he's now in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Patel desperately trying to maintain half guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Rooney advances to half guard.
Rooney is working for a kimura but Patel is defending it quite comfortably.
Rooney wants to take a breather but Patel is having none of it.

Patel tries to roll over but Rooney keeps him under control.

That was a close round but I would say that Asheesh Patel will probably get the nod.

and Patel counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Rooney thinking.

Jamie Rooney seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Patel drops Rooney with a beautiful combination! Rooney stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Patel is looking for the KO!
Patel closes the distance and lands a vicious right hand that drops Rooney! Patel dives in looking to finish! Rooney is still trying to defend himself but he's taking too many shots and the referee has no choice but to stop the fight!
