PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between cyrus sawyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Daniels (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). cyrus sawyer had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, cyrus sawyer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jack Daniels!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Alan Glass and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Daniels showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from sawyer.
sawyer displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Daniels.
sawyer dodges the punch combination from Daniels.

sawyer takes the fight into the clinch.
Daniels looking to slow down the pace here.
Daniels tries to score a body lock takedown but sawyer shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Daniels drops down looking for an ankle pick but sawyer pulls his leg out and moves away.
cyrus sawyer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Daniels.
sawyer lands with a straight right. Daniels didn't see that one coming.
sawyer pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Daniels back to the cage. sawyer follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Daniels tries to clinch but fails miserably

and sawyer counters with a takedown into side control.
sawyer in side control, just content to control the action for now.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
sawyer lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Daniels down.

Daniels takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
sawyer is looking to take a break and control but Daniels is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Daniels can't do much from the bottom here.
sawyer is putting a hurting on Daniels here, landing some big shots from side control.
sawyer in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Daniels tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Daniels is being controlled here.

sawyer is trying to get an arm triangle but Daniels is defending well.

Daniels tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but sawyer wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Daniels takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Daniels is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Daniels sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
sawyer tries to pass the half guard into mount. Daniels knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
sawyer lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
sawyer passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Daniels!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
sawyer raining down hammerfists from mount.
sawyer blocks Daniels's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
sawyer scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Daniels?

sawyer lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Daniels taking shots to the head.
Daniels is trying to escape the mount.
Daniels looks gassed!

Daniels is desperately trying to improve his position but sawyer has a good base and remains in mount.

sawyer lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Daniels bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Daniels slips nicely into half guard.
sawyer really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

sawyer is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Daniels pulls his head out easily.
Daniels is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and sawyer reverses the position - he's now on top in Daniels's guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Daniels is on top in guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

sawyer working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Daniels doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Daniels manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

cyrus sawyer dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


sawyer misses with a straight left.

sawyer has Daniels up against the cage in a clinch.
Daniels is trying to force a seperation but sawyer has the dominant position.
sawyer tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

sawyer manages to break the clinch.

sawyer feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

sawyer avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Daniels manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
sawyer working to try and regain half guard.

Daniels wants to stand but sawyer is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.

Daniels working for a submission but sawyer is keeping him at bay.
sawyer is trying to escape the mount.
sawyer knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Daniels on the ground.
sawyer is bucking up trying to escape but Daniels cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
sawyer tries to reverse the position but Daniels maintains control.

Daniels looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Daniels has control of sawyer's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and sawyer regains control of the situation pretty easily.

sawyer wants to get back to his feet.
sawyer is trying to reverse the position but instead Daniels has taken his back - oops!
Daniels is landing with strikes. sawyer can't take much more of this.
sawyer trying to control the action but Daniels just sinks the hooks in.

Daniels is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. sawyer knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften sawyer for a finish.

Daniels is looking for a sweep. sawyer is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Daniels is trying to stand back up but sawyer is controlling him
sawyer looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

sawyer lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Daniels has hold of sawyer's hands but sawyer slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Daniels showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



sawyer has taken the fight to the clinch.
Daniels has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. sawyer avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
sawyer tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Daniels just stands there and leans against the cage.

sawyer gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Daniels regains guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Daniels is on top in guard.
Daniels postures up in sawyer's guard and throws a big left but sawyer blocks it.
sawyer is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

sawyer is looking to take a break and control but Daniels is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
sawyer thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Daniels's head.
sawyer content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Daniels tries to roll over but sawyer keeps him under control.
Daniels is not content to let sawyer control the position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The ref stands the fighters back up. cyrus sawyer wasn't doing enough on the ground.
A looping hook to the body misses from sawyer. Daniels does a little dance to reset his feet.
Daniels closes the distance looking to clinch

and sawyer holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

sawyer gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Daniels regains guard.
sawyer wants to control from the top but Daniels keeps moving.

Daniels has his foot on sawyer's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. sawyer works his way back into a safe position though.

Daniels is looking for a triangle but sawyer pushes his legs off easily.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells sawyer's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

sawyer wants to control from the top but Daniels keeps moving.
sawyer connects with a couple of short punches.

Daniels is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
sawyer trying to control the position from guard on top but Daniels is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Daniels is looking to stand up but sawyer isn't so interested in that idea.
Daniels throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Daniels tries to land a sweep but no joy.

sawyer distracts Daniels with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Daniels looking for a sweep. Not yet Daniels, not yet.
sawyer throws a big right hand that misses.
sawyer working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Daniels's head.
sawyer is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Daniels is on top in guard.
cyrus sawyer overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to cyrus sawyer.
Well sawyer has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
