Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tommy John (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Benjamin Foster (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Benjamin Foster acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tommy John!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Benjamin Foster!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Taro Takaoka and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Foster looks to land a combination but John avoids it well.
John tries to close the distance and clinch up but Foster swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Foster throws an overhand right that lands on John's shoulder, as John tries to avoid the shot.
Foster closes the distance looking to clinch

and John counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by John.
Foster doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
with the fighters clinched against the cage, Foster creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

John closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

John thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
John tries to advance to mount but Foster denies him.
Foster is working to avoid the ground and pound but John connects with a decent elbow.

John throws an elbow but Foster slips to the side and avoids it well.
Foster is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, John asserts his dominance and retains side control.

John tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no John has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Foster tries to bench press John off him but John keeps the position.
Foster controls the position for a moment.

John is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Foster has escaped the position, nice work there.
John tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

John goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Foster rolls with the submission and now he's on top in John's guard! Nice work there by Foster!

John working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Foster doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Foster manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Foster stands and steps away. John gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

John tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Foster counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
John tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Foster counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Foster lands a hook that snaps the head of John backwards.
Foster lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

Foster pushes John back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Foster lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of John backwards.
John's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
John misses with a knee strike.
John blocks an uppercut.
Foster lands a nice shot to the body.
John tries to pull guard but Foster holds him up against the cage and eventually John drops back down to his feet.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

John moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Foster has worked his arm free - good work by Foster!

Foster really doesn't want to stay on the ground with John. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

John is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Foster knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

John seems to have got his legs back now.
John lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Foster backwards.

John manages to pull guard.
Foster controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Foster avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

John has his foot on Foster's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Foster works his way back into a safe position though.
Foster is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Foster wanted to stand there but John had control of the position.

Foster moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Foster decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Foster dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Foster has taken the fight to the clinch.
Foster is working John over against the cage.
Foster lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Foster makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

John turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and John manages to end up in side control.
Foster is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, John asserts his dominance and retains side control.

John is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Foster knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Foster parries the strikes from John easily there. John is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Foster to escape.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Tommy John will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Benjamin Foster's cut.
That's time! John's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Foster misses with a few strikes there.
Foster rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and John counters with a nice double leg into guard.
John thows a big elbow that misses.

John drops back, looking for a kneebar! Foster looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Foster looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Foster!

John manages to get to full guard.

John has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Foster is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for John.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Foster has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

John tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Foster smiles and moves away.

Foster digs a right hand into John's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on John's gas tank.

John turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and John manages to end up in side control.

John had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Foster is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. John Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Foster's back instead.

John doesn't have the hooks in and Foster manages to turn into his guard.

John has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Foster can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Foster stands up and beckons John to his feet.

John closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - John lands in his opponent's guard.
John pushes down on Foster's leg and manages to get into half guard.

John is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Foster defends it well.

John is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

John has hold of Foster's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Foster manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Foster tries to reverse the position but John maintains control.
John lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Foster hang on?

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

John is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Foster has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Foster!

Foster has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! John celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
