PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Ledger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ledger has chosen Ratm KIlling In the name as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ryan Penn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Joe Ledger!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Bruno Hogan and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ledger with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Penn to score with a decent uppercut.
Penn pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Penn throws a right and a left that both miss.
Penn blocks the body kick.
Ledger blocks a jab.
Ledger stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ledger wants it to stay on the feet.
Ledger scores with a hook.
Ledger swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Ledger misses with an attempted mid kick.
Penn tries to clinch up but Ledger circles away and keeps his distance.
Ledger avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Ledger keeps the fight on the outside.
Penn feints a jab promting Ledger to slip. Penn then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Ledger slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Ledger lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Penn has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Penn and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Penn fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Ledger thumps Penn with a low kick.
Joe Ledger is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Penn moves in looking to clinch but Ledger pushes him off.
Ryan Penn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Ledger lands a leg kick that knocks Penn off balance momentarily.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ledger swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Penn throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Ledger counters with a nice body kick.
Ledger throws a leg kick but Penn checks it.
Ledger turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Penn has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Ledger.
Ledger cracks a nice hook into Penn's ribs.
Penn jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Ledger lands a head kick!
Ledger bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Penn's head backwards.
Ledger misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Penn has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Ledger.

Ledger misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Ledger scores with a crisp jab that stopped Penn in his tracks.

Ledger throws a left that rocks Penn and follows with a right that sends him tumbling to the canvas! Ledger dives into side control, looking to finish! Can Penn regain composure!

Ledger lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Ledger working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Ledger looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Penn is avoiding damage well.
Penn takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Ledger stands up.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ledger moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Ledger does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Penn misses with an uppercut.
Ledger attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Penn closes the distance but Ledger moves to the side
and Ledger finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Ledger throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Ledger lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Ledger fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Penn has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Penn tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Penn misses with a combination
and Ledger counters with a slapping leg kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Ledger dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Ryan Penn's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Thud! ouch! good body kick from Ledger - that will leave a mark!

Ledger lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

and Ledger makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Ledger looks to land a combination but Penn avoids it well.
Ledger connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Penn is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.

and Ledger counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Penn shoots in looking for a takedown. Ledger tries to sprawl out of it but Penn keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Ledger manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Ledger tries to land a front kick but Penn steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Ledger shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Penn eats them both and turns towards Ledger to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Ledger lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Ledger has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Ledger bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Penn's head.

Penn wants to clinch but Ledger slips to the side
and Ledger makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Penn shoots in for a takedown but Ledger shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Penn. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.
A chopping leg kick lands by Ledger.
Penn tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ledger sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Penn somewhat.
Ledger stalks Penn and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Penn's face. Penn staggers backwards, shaken.
Penn looks to land a left hand but Ledger moved out of range nicely.
Penn tries to move into range but Ledger moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Ledger motions for Penn to come forward. Ledger throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Penn falls off balance throwing a combination
and Ledger counters with a one-two to the body.
Penn takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Penn misses with a double jab
and Ledger counters with a nice uppercut.
The fighters circle momentarily. Penn darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Ledger lands a head shot.

Penn is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Penn misses with a looping left.

Penn takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
A right-left combo lands from Ledger.
Ledger displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Penn.

Some bone on bone action there as Penn checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Joe Ledger comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Ledger has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
